I looooooove my EEs. I have 25 of the darlings and they are each one different in coloring and personality. It makes things fun. I'll spare you 25 pictures and I need to take some recent ones, but this is my favorite girl, Blueberry. As soon as she hears my voice she comes running and MUST be picked up and cuddled. She won't take no for an answer. I swear she would move into the house and live with me if I'd let her.

Here she is at 8 weeks:

what beautiful green leggs she has! I wonder where the green leggs come from? The Am's & Ar's don't have them . . . i don't know of any other breed that has them . . . anybody? Maybe it's the sign of a true purebred EE???

This is my thought:

As far as I know the APA doesn't recognize EE's. that is why they are considered mutts. There is no recognized standard for them.

Why would you guys get your hackles up about EE standards that are just an imitation of Americauna standards plus a few extra colors? If you haven't noticed the prejudice is pointed out all of the time that the legs are the wrong color etc.... compared to the Americauna. That's fine with me, a chicken is just a chicken. I've ordered plenty of EE's that have NO muffs from hatcheries, in fact about 50%. Personally, muffs are one of my most favorite characteristics but if someone has a beloved chicken without a muff that they want to call an EE, that is fine with me.

The important thing is that they breed true. It is my hope that if I manage to create an EE with a little poof or mohawk feather-do consistantly, it will consistently look like its parents, siblings, aunts and uncles and lay colored eggs. So it is a big colored egg laying umbrella we are all under, and if you aren't happy with how my special EE creations look then just skip past my pictures.

thanks

I love Easter Egger's green legs! I wish people would poster pictures of their Egger's legs, because that beautiful Green color is such a great indicator of being an egger, and i just love their legs. So Cute!

Also, Bump for this thread! Post your eggs!

I never got close ups of the girls legs from last year and my only easter egger is going thru a molt so she is not laying her light pink eggs now. I also belong on the washington state byc and there is a lady who is holding some really pretty easter egg girls for me if she gets transfered. I hope she does so I get them.

If you are referring to my post, I'm sorry - I didn't mean to offend anyone. Your EE chickens are adorable and I'd love to have some that look like yours. If I could have roosters, I would probably be experimenting too

. Your "special EE creations" are very pretty and definitely belong on this thread.

In my post, I was just referring to how general the term EE is used (not that YOU are using it generally, but that we all do). When a breeder crosses a barred rock with a leghorn, the resulting chicks are not barred rocks (or leghorns), but are barred rock crosses. But.... when we take an EE and breed it to something else, we refer to the chicks as EEs, not EE crosses.

I was mostly wanting people to stop using the word "mutt" to describe EE chickens - When a breeder breeds a BR with a RIR, they call it a BSL or a black star, never a mutt (even though they are mixed breed chickens) - the poor EEs get called mutts all the time, even if they are straight from the hatchery and not a mixed breed. I'm sure most labradoodle & cockapoo owners would prefer their dogs called by those titles than referred to as "mutts" - it's just a more derogatory term and is usually used on dogs with accidental breeding.

Danab -- Wow - what nice photos - your Bella looks like our Princess - Dora is very pretty too.

SoccerMom - Blueberry is sure cute - I have one similar, but I think Blueberry has more gold in her neck. I bet she will be beautiful when she grows up.

GraceAK - My EEs lay the green & mint colored eggs in this photo - The EEs that laid these eggs have grey or slate colored legs, but I do have some chicks with green legs.
