Ive seen that coloration in EE roosters too, I think it is a variation on a duckwing pattern, and have yet to find out what other breed they used to create that at the hatcheries, or what the combo would produce color-wise for the hen...I;m very of that in the EE roosters

Well, this weekend I found my Easter Egger rooster that I've been seraching for. He's a best I can guess a Blue Wheaten, blue with red on his hackle and saddle. I'm going to cross him with my beautiful red and white hens their red is about the same red that is on the the rooster, I'm guessing that maybe they are a wheten splash (just a guess now).

I'm not sure , but think that color comes from being heterozygous for silver ; most of the gold [ or red ] gets replaced with silver white but leaves yellow lacing in the hackles and saddle , some red bleed often occuring on the wings or even the body . I had one like that except charcoal colored where yours is black . Finally decided to cull him in favor of a pure Ameraucana , but it was a difficult decision .

I don't really know what it's called truthfully. He's a mutt. I originally thought he was just going to be a splash, but then that red started leaking through when his adult feathers came in. Daddy was blue from a long line of BBS ameraucanas. The splash coloring would have come through him I'm guessing. Mama looks like this:

You can see the buff coming through in her white. I've also been told that white covers a multitude of other feather colors. The white turns off the other colors (maybe? I get iffy on genetics.). I have no idea her heritage as she came from a hatchery. I assumed the red came through her line. Dunno.

The good news is that he is off to his new happy home and will not be dinner. YAY!

I finally got a good picture of my EE "Trudy"

I have wanted to brag about her here for so long!

She lays the prettiest green eggs.

She was the second chick we ever hatched and my whole family (all 8 of us!) had our faces pressed to the 'bator as she popped out.

I went to the county fair with my kids tonight and I didn't see any chickens who looked like her. Where is her beard?

(Sorry the post is SMILIES heavy ...my kids really enjoy them and insist on them wherever they are appropriate...and then some!)
