The EE braggers thread!!!

We just got our first EE in July. She is a blue and lays an olive egg. She is very cuddly and quite the talker. I really like her personality. I hope to hatch some of her eggs. They are due December 12th.

Oh my goodness,

such beautiful beautiful pics of such beautiful beautiful birds.

thank you for sharing these with us.

Spring and babies can't be that far away

According to the calendar winter begins December 19th or is it the 20th. Chickens addicts are even more silly than gardeners who are looking at the seed catalogs now ! Here we are thinking about springtime chicks.

Little chicks are just too cute !

Skittlez, Love that little face on the front bird and the markings on the one in back... Honestly ever bird I see just gives me more 'n 'more hankerings.

And dang! it's cold out. My Mille Fleurs are not all that well protected from the cold. Won't go in to the little dog house. I think I will remove the dog crate tomorrow and try to wrestle the Igloo in to the yard. Nope, on second thought, can't do that one alone. I could go out and snatch up their little sleeping bodies and put them in and shut the door. Now, I have to do it or I will have guilt...( see Toy Story I for deeper understanding)

My first hatch was lousy , only 5 fertile out of 14 , only three hatched . I was expecting all yellow chicks : a white laced red Cornish cockeral over Cornish meat hybrid pullets , and Cornish meat hybrid cockerals over EE pullets . Here's what I got .

That yellow chick came from a CX egg and was supposed to be sired by the WLRC ; they're hard to see in the fuzzy first pic , but I believe it has muffs visible in the pic from behind . The blue and chipmunk are out of blue/green eggs from " partridgey " EE pullets but sure not sired by a dominate white CX . My white Ameraucana that I thought was too bashful and that was tried in first one and then the other breeding pen must have been busy while I wasn't around . Next go round they'll have been seperated longer and hopefully all will be EE as I ate the WLRC three weeks ago

His body type and tail set are wrong for an Ameraucana bred to the SOP , but he's a nice looking bird ! To me , Ameraucana is a fabricated [ a combination of the two words " American " and " Araucana " ] name a group of breeders came up with to call their new breed which was being promoted for APA approoval ; I don't " borrow " their name to describe my birds except those that are bred to the standards those dedicated breeders came up with .
Some hatcheries are still breeding and selling the original type of Araucana/Americana/Easter Egger and have settled into a pretty uniform type ; the rumplessness and tufts being mostly naturally eliminated due to their negative impact on reproduction , muffs and beards prevailing . They are still of the original wild type in color , have a little more slender body , a more upright body and tail set than an Ameraucana . Others have added white , blue , lavender , gold laced with black , etc. , through several breeds including Ameraucanas and came up with a wider range of body types and colors ; thats where the term " mutt " does have some legitimacy ........... but that does not mean they are not beautiful birds .

I really am enjoying my EE. She really surprised me with the olive egg. One thing I have noticed is that she does not have green legs. Her legs are slate. Do other EE's have slate legs too?
What could she be mixed with to get the olive egg?
