I've had to wait as long as 8 months; I know it can be frustrating to wait somtimes.

Depending on which hatchery the feed store uses you are more likely to get roos from a straight run purchase. Crash meant to purchase pullets not straight run. The chances are still 1 in 10 for getting a roo from an all pullet purchase but that's a lot better than the straight run purchase. If you did purchase pullets and got 3 roos instead I would say complain to your feed store! I know they say there are no guarantees that pullets will always be pullets but 3 roos? That's excessive!

I agree! Good looking GS! They are my favorite breed of dog.

And yes, Steve is also right about your EE, Jennifer, 6+ months is not that old for an EE. It would be for a leghorn or an RIR but not an EE.

I have one EE that I am not sure how much and even if she was laying almost all winter. She did lay for a while last fall at about 7 months. Today is the first day I'm pretty sure she did lay. I have 11 chickens and I got 11 eggs today. So, unless someone out there is laying more than once a day, they are all now laying. Welcome spring.

11 out of 11?!!! Wow that is awesome! Congrats!!!

not to toot my own horn, but, of my August hatch babies, I have 12 pullets. I got 12 eggs two days ago. So, I got 12 out of 12. hahaha. Shamwow !!!

and on top of that, of the 12, 11 are EE's and those 11 are ALL blue/green egg layers. BAM.

P.S. my new incubator has arrived.

I done went and did it!!!!!! I am now the proud mama of 5 EE's and the Auntie of 15

. I drove awhile today to visit someone who said they had birds I wanted that didn't work out,

On the way home we passed a feed store(I remember when clothes store use to thrill me) ! Any way they had just received very healthy EE chicks so we bought all 20, I am the only one that had a brooder ready to go so I get to keep all of them for awhile

. Those little chipmunk faces are so cute. One has feathered legs...possible??

Wow! Welcome to all these new folks here on the EE thread. Spring is happenin' some places and apparently the eggs are too! I feel like I am really running behind, I am not quite finished with some new breeder pens, hens are laying and I haven't separated my various breeds yet. So... all these pretty blue eggs are being sold to my customers and are turned into omeletes. I am itching to crank up the 'bators but guess it's still early in the season as we had snow showers yesterday and mid 20's this mornin'. Have one young hen that has already gone broody and is determined to hatch a golf ball!

Some folks cross their Ameraucanas or EEs with Cochins so the can have EE with more feather and feathered legs. I prefer the opposite. Less feathers, except I do think that the CREST is an interesting feature, no feathers on legs as I feel like I need to wash them all of the time. And a pea or at least the smallest comb. You can put an EE with proven blue egg genes under any type rooster to try for a different look.

Ugh it is time to bath my dirty nasty white Showgirl, who needs a distraction for her temporary job as foster mother. While she did a good job keeping the chicks warm and together, there were several that she picked on. She was not nice to the white EEs, the little Hamburgs and the little red Polish. She must not like white and smaller chicks.

I have 12 beautiful eggs today also. But that is two days worth, I have only six layers. I having fun watching the chicks, 11 EEs plus some mixes of my own birds, getting bigger and more pretty each day. They are three weeks old and outside already and I feel bed because we have had gale force winds past two days. At least that is what it sounds and feels like. Mary
