I followed the directions to make a little chicken photo-box that I found somewhere on here. I can't find the thread now. Then I place the unhappy little chickens inside and try to snap a few pictures as quick as possible. If they aren't having a full-on tantrum by then, I'll try to hold them a bit and give them some food in an attempt to make them a bit more tame.
I gave the chickies a mashed hardboiled egg tonight for the first time. I had given them yogurt (which they liked) and salad thinnings (which they didn't know what to do with) before, but their response was nothing like this! They were all over the bowl until every last speck was gone. Whoa! That was fun, so they will definitely be having egg again. On a side note, the whole hardboiled egg thing disturbs the DH greatly. He thinks it's a bit cannibalistic, I think.
I just figure it's like giving a child milk - it contains nutrients similar to (or, in this case, exactly the same as) those that nature provided for a good start, so it supports continued health.
ChestnutRidge as soon as they firgure out that they can do it, they will be jumping up onto the plate before you can put it down. Mashed eggs are just about everybodys favorite around here.
I keep reading and hearing about how chicks love eggs. I gave my 8 little ones a scrambled one (nothing else in it, just egg) and they seemed very half-hearted about it. Some would snatch it from my hand and then just drop it.
Now zucchini and grapes are another story. They are ALL over those! I guess they're just like kids, some like their veggies, others don't!
Yes it is funny how different folks report some likes and dislikes. I made my birds spoiled by putting the leftover vegetables and some other larger pieces of leftovers into the food processor and as soon as they find that it is food they will eat it. Sometimes they turn it down initially but it usually disappears. Another favorite is cooked oatmeal, mashed bananas and yogurt mix.
That is a beautiful rooster ! What is his disposition ?
