flower - Wish there were more people with your limits.

I'm used to going over 100 miles for the simplest things, of which there isn't much, yet sadly most other people in my state won't bother driving just 2 hours for something.


DMRippy - Solid colors; look for beginnings of saddle feathers or glistening triangular wing feathers. Check in between the wings, right on the back, for very small triangular glistening feathers beginning to pop in. They won't be there now, but in a few more weeks. Same goes for Rocks and New Hampshires, however Barred Rocks are sexable at hatch.

My BF just drove up to Washington for his sisters wedding last weekend and obviously went through Oregon!

Hah then I thold him this and he's like 'heck, tell em we'll meet them in Weed, any excuse to get away for the weekend'... (even though neither of us have weekends off)

I'm used to traveling pretty far. I work an hour away from home. Its a sucky drive and I hate it but I like the job for the most part and the pay is pretty good..

Is this a EE? If so, can you tell if it is boy or girl? I was told boy but no explanation as to why that decision was made. It also has no fuzzy cheeks like my other EE's do and no real tail either or at least yet. Its 5-6 weeks old or so I was told

But how did you come to that conclusion?

I say boy too, b/c of the comb at such a young age, and the no tail feathers thing, w/ my limited experience w/ boy chicks (my one EE) he was weeks behind the girls in tail feather developement, I had begun to wonder if he was "rumpless" (I was brand new to chickens and didn't know any better at the time)

But I don't get where he's EE? I would have said he was not EE, but Illia knows her chickens so listen to her not me on that.

I say EE because he has a pea comb, common EE cockerel color (though he could be a girl, it's a tad less likely) and the lack of tail is quite likely also just slow growth. I had an EE just like him, almost exactly (no beard either. Remember, EE's are mutts, and half of them are often not bearded) that also had no tail for quite a while, then finally grew one in.


A truly rumpless bird you'll notice. Their wings don't hang to the side like a normal chick at this age, instead, they join together and there's literally no butt there as it is hidden beneath the wings. Rumpless birds like Araucanas actually have less vertebrae than EE's.
