Sounds as if you are not in real trouble. But if I were at the stage to have four year olds. I would have a lock on my coop ! Kids are almost as curious as my german shepherd who can sit and watch the birds for hours and has snacked on quite a few chicks if they escape through the fence.I have to start all over. My 4 year old raided my broody nest. She was sitting on 9 EE's olive eggers 3 chocolate and 2 cochin+maran cross @ 9 days old. I was so livid. This morning she asked me if the mama chicken can bring back the babies. So I'll try again. Right now she is sitting on golf balls. I'll start collecting today, by day 3 she will be back over eggs. Some where not fertile. Maybe this batch will be better since I sold half the flock 2 weeks ago. The rooster only has 12 girls to cover now. But on the bright side I put 46 in the incubator yesterday. 35 green,5 chocolate and 6 brown. The brown ones are from 1 ee and 1 giant cochin. I wanted the cochin but couldn't tell which egg was hers. so I just took them all. This is the guy that is hatching them. He has a cam to watch them hatch. He hatches on weekends.![]()
