chicks finished hatching There EEs, Black copper marans, Olive eggers, 1 might be a wheaten marans. I tagged 6 of the Black coppers chicks, but some got hatch without me seeing. Plus some of the olive eggs look just like BCMs .
This is the frist time I've used my EE rooster breeding. I sure hope he carries the blue egg gene. Alot of the pullets I got in that group of chickens laid tan eggs (they were fluffy cheeked and rose comb, relocated to a gentleman who just wanted egg layers he didn't care what color) Guess I'll have to save a few pullets to see what gene he carries.
Htched 23 chicks from 36 eggs.
Some on one of these forums I go to said if eggs have hatched in time to gently open to break the membran before it dries. On the last 4 marans I tried it save all 4. Took the top off the egg very carefully, the membran was dry and tough opened it. They looked like they would make it. But this morning were getting around well enough to go in with the others.
Now some my OES should look like cuckoos Mom is cuckoo colored, fluffy cheeks and rose combed bred back to a BCM. Two OEs/BCM hens (clean face and only the slightest rose comb lay a beautiful olive egg Those babies will be hard to tell from BCM. I had those black OEs in my black copper pen could tell the different until they laid their egg.
What fun chicks are.
