The EE braggers thread!!!

I have quite a few EE chicks hatched from my own birds, but here are some pictures of the parents. Every single one of my girls lays a blue egg. Not even close to green.

One of the eggs in the corner. They all lay exactly the same shade. I haven't had more than 3 eggs in one day, so maybe one is still yet to lay. They were born March 3rd.

I love the white hen

she is a beauty.

I'm remembering back to the mixed farm chickens we had when I was a kid. We always had eggs throughout the winter, just not so many. Haven't had a winter yet with my current flock, but the neighbor continues to get some eggs over the winter, including some from her EEs. These are dual purpose hatchery hens though, bred for laying ability.

Some hertitage breeds may be more sensitive to the light cycles and stop all together, as may individual hens of any breed. Age will also be a factor.

Hope your girls give you some eggs this fall! I have mine outside all day in hopes of influencing egg production for the younger pullets. The biggest drop in production lately is due to an epidemic of broodiness. One full time broody Australorp and two wanna-be broodies (including my EE) that spend about half a day on the nest. The sad thing is I don't even have a rooster!! The Australorp sits all day and night with no eggs. I know there are things to do to break her of this, but letting nature take its course, for now.

Completely agree!

The only thing I would add is in my experience the young pullets which start to lay will usually lay well all winter. When they are young they lay very well the first year but tend to slow down some after that. Of course it all depends on the breed as the previous post states. I do not know if the area you live in makes a difference but I live in E. TN and this is how its worked for me.

I just had to stop by and let you all know that one of my EEs laid her first egg!!!!!!I do not know which one yet but hopefully her sister will start up soon as well! Look at how small and round it is!! it's blue with just a hint of Green I think -kind of hard to tell, she laid it a few ft away from the coop ramp, in the dirt. store bought egg for size comparison

Loving all the new pictures of your EEs all!

Ok, that makes me feel a little better. I would be soo happy if my chickens went broody over the winter. My rooster is getting pretty anxious with the girls, they haven't paid him any attention yet and I think he's starting to get frustrated. Though with my luck my chickens won't go broody at all. We will see. I keep telling them they need to lays eggs now so I can have poached eggs. lol.

Thank you so much! Yes, Stanley is a very good rooster. Great with the girls, protective, and minds his manners around humans. He loves to eat corn out of your hand.

He'll call the girls to your hand as well. I'd say he's more daring. Always has been. Since he was a chick, he was the first one to investigate anything I was offering. Really good boy!
