The EE braggers thread!!!

So bummed!
My little yellow/brown chick & my little dot head chick are missing
hit.gif

I let them out with mom yesterday and when I got home she was snuggled up in the nest so I figured everyone was safe & sound...this morning when I went to let her out again I only have the 2 brown girls left.

It is so hard because I have mom & babies in a 6x6 pen but mom has destroyed it. She has dug really deep, not a blade of grass to be found. She even filled the tray of the 5 gallon waterer with dirt so they had no water one day. She hates being locked up so I let her & the babies out on Saturday & Sunday & by Monday the 2 disappeared...I locked mom & the 2 remaining babies back up before work this morning but she was really PO'ed.

If I plan on raising more babies with a broody (I do!) I guess I'll have to build some sort of tractor for them.
sorry about that

Here we go...

My girls are 24 weeks old... today.

You have a rubber stamp for each chickens eggs? How many chickens do you have?

I have about 75-100 that could be laying at any one time so that is not an option for me. Cute idea... I just use a sharpie and initials.

Ha! yeah... Because I live in the city on a modest quarter acre lot, I just have the 7.

I am planning to give/sell my extra eggs to my neighbors who have small children, who have all been over to see the girls a few times... I figured stamping the name of the chicken who laid the eggs on the eggs would really drive home the whole "where food comes from" angle, which I think is an important piece of food education that gets lost in more urban settings.

I think if I had more than 10 I'd pare that down to just stamps for the different breeds... and if I had more than 10 breeds I'd just stick to a single stamp with the name of my egg business on it.

You can get really cute crosses with silkies.

Here's one off of google image.
I haven't tried crossing my own yet. I'd feel bad for my silkie hens being mated by a EE roo. Silkies weigh around 2 pounds. My EE rooster pushes 7.

There is a thread on pictures of silkie crosses. I had a hugh turken cockerel mate a tiny serama hen and she was the fine with the deed. She tolerates the silkie rooster also. Better to have a silkie rooster which are easy to find. That is if you want to have silkie EEs...........?

I have a white hen with a big beard, it kind of flops around when she walks/runs. I think it's SO cute and can't help but pet it and push the fluff out of her eyes everynight when i collect the eggs and she's roosted.

I'd definitely love silkie EEs :D I think breeding a white egg layer to an EE is the best way to ensure you have more blue eggs. (since all of my EEs lay blue).

2 Naked Necks are laying now - both a chalky green :celebrate

DMRippy - I know what you mean. It is awesome in theory, but isn't possible for big time flocks like us!

I have right now in my incubator some silkie eggs [black pullet] crossed with a blue Ameraucana [not an EE] cockerel to make my own silkie EEs!!!
That is of course, if any are fertile and hatch!!

What would they look like?
They'd have muffs, beards, a bit of a crest and some feathered legs??
Would 50% be black and 50% be blue?
They should lay a light blue egg, yes??

Thanks!

If your silkie is truly black you will get 50% blue, 50% black.
