ha ha true...so so true

Jasmine's butt is HUGE (well, so is her front for that matter...) her comb is as red as can be, and growing every day. Her wattles are bigger than quarters now, and STILL no eggs...not so much as a squat, or even a peek into the nest box!

Bertha started squatting over a week ago and I noticed her comb and wattles change a few days ago. I was shocked at how huge and red they got. Low and behold she has been laying for 5 days at least. I just wish she would let me know when she lays. My little frizzle sings an egg song but she is way to young for laying and if she laid an egg this size she would be in a world of hurt...Berthas eggs are twice the size of Frans head lol

mine haven't started squatting yet, but something is making me begin to wonder if a snake (though it is too cold for one right now) or some other smallish animal is slipping in and eatting the eggs...I had two dud eggs in the nest box that are now both MIA...

Maybe the girls pushed them out and covered them lol I was shocked to find eggs hidden under the shavings...it was like winning the lottery

lol well, I found one, but the other is still MIA!!...and I discovered that one of my buff orpington younglings thinks shredded paper is delicious...looks like I will be changing the nest box substrate yet again...

How can you tell me this bird isn't laying yet?!

This is Jasmine, she is getting HUGE, and her comb and wattles look almost like those of a mature bird. just look how WIDE this bird is (okay, so it's really hard to get a picture of her from dead on...she always wants to show you her side...she looks like the back end of a bus in real life!)!

Im amazed that this is a hatchery bird (you breeders may disagree!)...every time I go out and look at them, I marvel at her loveliness, and wonder why on earth she isn't laying!

Candi's comb and wattles are super red too! They aren't as developed as Jasmine's, and Candi certainly isn't as ahem...."stately" as Jasmine, but still!

That's what I keep thinking too!

But she is in a ten by ten dog run with a plastic dog house, a nest box, and a platform of cinderblocks for food and water...I couldn't imagine she is hiding them in there...I am suspicious that something may be eatting them? They haven't been free ranging. There is a VERY hungry hawk in these parts lately...Snow was killed a week ago by one.

The white egg on the right is a large store bought egg.

Don't know who laid my egg but my Buff Cochin and my Black Australorp are 29 weeks old today. Do know it was not my White Leghorn though. So much more leghorns being early layers! The ladies will get some mealworms today for a treat!
