The EMERGENCY Thread!!!

Hello everyone!

First of all thank you, this thread is genius!

Ok, so I have a very sick month old chick. She doesn't move much, won't eat and only drinks if I use a dropper. I noticed a funny noise coming from her vent, it seems like she can't pass anything no matter how hard she tries. I've had her with me for over an hour now and all she does is desperately try to move something from her system. She appears to be quite stressed and incapable of doing anything. :'(

Please post if you know anything, I've been hand raising her and she is much loved.

Hi. This could be the result of being egg bound! Here is an article to help you if this is the case https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/egg-binding-symptoms-treatment-and-prevention
Hi, I just lost a chicken today, that emerged from the coop with purplish comb and wattles this morning. She was only a few months old and yesterday she was crowing. I thought she was just a late blooming rooster. She crowed so much she list her voice, but I just thought it was making up for lost time. This morning she was breathing badly and let me catch her without a fuss. Her breathing was bad and she kept almost screaming. I isolated her and she continued to have breathing problems. The reference I read said keep her isolated and give her a couple days to rest then decide about antibiotics. I didn't get that time. She died just after lunch. Any ideas as to what it might be? I have a young flock of layers. Are they at risk? Can anything be done? ( I live in a remote area, we don't have a live stock vet, let alone an avian specialist.)

Here is something i gathered off an article on chicken combs

Am looking for anyone that can help. Yester day eve I noticed my rooster's comb had turned purple and he was laying down. Today same thing, except he is wobbily when he walks and wings dragging. He did eat when I put veggies down. Any Ideas???? Help, Please!! Am leaving for 5 minutes to collect him in carrier and bring him inside. Will be right back. OK am back. Comb has gone from purple to black around the edges. He is very weak.

Awww, I'm so sorry to hear this! I would seek veterinary help soon, not being about to pass things is a big problem! But as of right now...have you fed her anything harmful like uncooked beans or rice? I know that these ( uncooked ) can cause problems in chickens' system, especially small ones.
Thanks Abby, I'll make sure to do that :)

What food is she getting? Does she get grit?
Ahh of course! :D She's getting ground up grains, before that she was on proper chick food :) She also free ranges and get suppliments in a mash, so overall she should be getting the nutrients she needs (we hope). :)

I just came back from her and she's looking a lot better though! Fingers crossed she continues this way. :)

Feed sounds good.... glad she's getting better.

Will do! She's actually looking a little better already, she stood up for a few moments! :) We gave her the molasses and some oil, and I think she's feeling a little better! :weee

Thanks for all the help!

That's amazing! She's definitely in my prayers.
