Hello everyone!
First of all thank you, this thread is genius!
Ok, so I have a very sick month old chick. She doesn't move much, won't eat and only drinks if I use a dropper. I noticed a funny noise coming from her vent, it seems like she can't pass anything no matter how hard she tries. I've had her with me for over an hour now and all she does is desperately try to move something from her system. She appears to be quite stressed and incapable of doing anything. :'(
Please post if you know anything, I've been hand raising her and she is much loved.
Hi. This could be the result of being egg bound! Here is an article to help you if this is the case https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/egg-binding-symptoms-treatment-and-prevention
Hi, I just lost a chicken today, that emerged from the coop with purplish comb and wattles this morning. She was only a few months old and yesterday she was crowing. I thought she was just a late blooming rooster. She crowed so much she list her voice, but I just thought it was making up for lost time. This morning she was breathing badly and let me catch her without a fuss. Her breathing was bad and she kept almost screaming. I isolated her and she continued to have breathing problems. The reference I read said keep her isolated and give her a couple days to rest then decide about antibiotics. I didn't get that time. She died just after lunch. Any ideas as to what it might be? I have a young flock of layers. Are they at risk? Can anything be done? ( I live in a remote area, we don't have a live stock vet, let alone an avian specialist.)
Here is something i gathered off an article on chicken combs
