Help!!! My girl has a prolapsed vent! Have never delt with this before. I noticed yesterday she had what looked like runny stools, I got busy doing my other chores and forgot to check her. Today I noticed she was walking around in the squatting position. I brought her inside, washed her poo off and say this. I gloved up, made an ACV/water and melaleuca EO and washed the inside and outside of vent. Gently pushed it back in, but every time she urinates or poo's it comes back out. Not sure what to do and if she can be saved? Help!!!

sorry to hear this,
clean with epsom salt water to help reduce swelling and pain, preparation h rubbed on after cleaned

soothes and helps with inflammation, its a hemorrhoid remedy, works the same way on them as it does on humans

I have been trying to push the tissue back in but she keeps pushing it back out. It also comes out when she poo's. I think I am going to have to put her down and end her suffering. Thanks for your help.

Gently feel inside the vent with a lubricated finger (about 1") see if there is an egg in there. Most likely not since she is still pooping, but doesn't hurt to check.

Soak her in a warm tub with epsom salts added to the water. Apply some hemorrhoid cream or honey to the prolapse - keep it moist at all times with cream so it doesn't dry out.

Sometimes if the prolapse is swollen/inflamed, it won't go back in until the swelling goes down.

Provide her with extra calcium (tums, liquid calcium, yogurt) and some poultry vitamins. Give her some extra protein like egg or tuna in addition to her normal feed. Make sure she is drinking plenty of water - dehydration will make contracting the prolapse more difficult.

Keep her in a quiet darkened area. Let her rest, re-hydrate and eat a little something. Give the ointment and bath some time to reduce swelling, then see if it will go back in.

Thank you. I did all of that yesterday when I found her, but I think I will do a more thorough exam before giving up on her. My only worry is that it will happen again. I don't want her suffering. Thanks for the advice.
