The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

All I know is that many attest to how well it works, but it all depends on the surgeon. My daughter had it done, and it has been wonderful. It's nothing like fusing. The downtime is minimal. She was down for a few days, then could go to the restroom, and do minimal things. By the second week, she accompanied her sister at the grocery store. She still couldn't lift anything, but was walking around just fine. After 3 days, she was no longer taking anything for pain. Her follow up appointment was 2 weeks after the surgery, and he released her to drive, and start physical therapy. She still couldn't lift anything heavy at that time, but could lift up to 5 pounds. After 2 months of physical therapy, she could lift anything she would have before the surgery, and she returned to work. She's fine now. Again, it all depends on the surgeon. It sounds like the ortho surgeon may not be qualified to do the procedure, which is why he claimed it doesn't work.

Can they do a steroid shot every few months to help with the pain, and inflammation? One of my cousins had to do that for years, until she finally broke down, and got surgery. They could at least refer him to a pain clinic, so he could get a prescription for pain patches.

Let me tell you about pain clinics. He was referred to one. He investigated how this would work and talked to them. Then, he declined. Here is why:

It's over an hour away, as all of them are. First, they want you to take daily pain meds. Daily. Do not skip doses. (he does not take them unless he's desperate because he prefers not to live in a fog).
Then, they do surprise spot checks. When they call you, you must drive to the clinic. No exceptions. You have to or they kick you out. Mind you, it's an hour away, through the mountains. And he's looped to the gills on pain meds, yet they want him to jump into a vehicle and drive under the influence. That's how pain clinics work, Cheryl. They're not what they're cracked up to be. So, all they do is put you on heavy, daily medication, much more than he takes now. He would be useless, a human puddle, and have no life left under their program. They have no magic wand to get rid of the pain from his condition. I think it's a scam for $$$, just like the CPAP garbage, but don't get me started on that.

Well..... Bummer on the pain!!!

How 'bout some chick pics to cheer us up? :)

I have a cockerel story too...will tell later.

PS: @speckledhen

I've read of a couple of herbals that are good for inflammation. I've used a couple of them myself and can attest that they work without chemical. I'll have to send you a pm

Of course, they're not going to fix the disc issue, but they may give some pain relief that you don't have to worry about.

You know, he bought wild lettuce seeds this year and never planted them. Next year, a raised bed will be dedicated to it (called opium lettuce, but I'm sure you know that).

On the long tailed girl, I've had those. They always molt out as they get to be teens. Cute chicksters.
And another more pleasing topic, quilts! I finished the quilting on my 3D Blooper quilt today, will bind with the same red as in the squares. Shown front and the back. It ended up about 59x67.
