The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Thanks, Julie

My husband saw his new doctor today, one that he can see in town since he's now on Medicare and has more choices. I still have to go to the one an hour away since I have to stay on the old program until Medicare myself, but at least, he can now stay here, no traveling except when he goes with me.

He was told that he has afib, given Eliquis samples to start on and has to see a cardiologist. He's never been told that once by any doctor, though they've treated him for HBP for years now. This guy said that if he had not been taking a particular drug he's on now, he would probably have already had a stroke. He is not pleased. He's always had a good heart, had EKGs done not that long ago, so maybe this irregular beat is a new thing, but why, I don't know. Another concern to deal with.

Today, we got a better TracPhone that actually can make a call from the house (imagine that!), and my new video camera arrived and it is awesome! Nice image stabilization and noise reduction and superior zoom. This time, I decided to go with a name brand, not some weirdly named off-brand.
Sorry to hear about your husband. It is so hard to trust drs. It seems that they want/need to find something new.
He never felt any thing different. Does it show in his EKG?
glad you got a better phone and video camera.. what brand did you get?.

It did not show in the last EKG he had about a year ago, so it surprised us. He hasn't felt anything different, either.

I got a Sony Handycam HDR CX405. The zoom is incredible and the detail is awesome so hopefully, I'll have some better videos in the future.

Atrial Fibrillation can be episodic at the beginning, so it could easily be missed early on. My Dad had Afib, and did not have any issues from it.

I have the CX-675, it's really nice, but I would recommend a tripod whenever possible. Or maybe it's just my shaky hands :D

Good to know. Tom is just not happy that someone wants him to take more meds. He has to coordinate if Medicare will pay and also if TriCare for Life, which acts as a supplement, will also pay or he won't take them. I don't blame him one bit. Since he dumped two BP meds, his BP has gone down and stabilized, not up. Every time he changes to another doctor, they want to start monkeying with his meds because they think his BP is too high. He has to tell them that it's down to what it is after years of that changing meds and trying others, etc, and if they start over, it may get worse. He has no patience for that stuff anymore. And forget any help for his main issue, his chronic pain. He's not the addictive type, only takes what he needs if and when it becomes just too unbearable, but he can't get pain meds prescribed for those times, just in case he needs them.
Forget pain clinics, what a JOKE. They want him to take many more drugs than he ever takes normally, and if they call, he's supposed to jump in the car, on drugs, and drive over an hour away to some pain clinic for testing. No thanks.
He's one irritating conversation away from dumping all his meds and letting the roulette wheel spin. He watched his mother play one doctor against another for too many years, taking a suitcase-full of drugs, even ones she was supposed to have stopped and it's left a bad taste in his mouth. I think they caused brain damage to my MIL. So, we'll see what happens with this new place. He had to go for blood tests this morning and has an appt with a cardiologist later this month. I said all this to say that he may just refuse meds and let the chips fall. I'm not talking him out of it, either. It's up to him. I have my own issues with the system.

Yes, it is just crazy what our medical system has become. All the addicts , then when we want a pain pill once in a while we can’t get it. I have animals. I can’t just stay in bed when my pain is bad. I have to function. Looking into cbd oil. But even that is hard to get.

I was reading a couple articles today about how the crackdown on prescribing opioids has gotten dangerously out of control. Many states are now going after doctors' licenses, if they don't reduce the number of prescriptions by a certain percentage. They are also going against the CDC recommendations in regards to people with chronic pain, that have been on pain medications for years, and actually need them, by forcing the doctors to wean their patients off the pain medications. The CDC has cautioned against this, but it seems the politicians think they know better. In the meantime, there is no substitute, or replacement, so they're just leaving people in pain.

What they're going to find is a rise in suicides and maybe even homicides. Pain can literally drive people to desperation. Some days my husband expresses how tired he is of hurting and how at times, he would just like it to end, in whatever way it can. If someone is in intense pain, they'll take whatever they can get to relieve it, including even more dangerous drugs than opioids.
