The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

I feel like it's just people spouting the party line, so to speak, asking the trite questions, then they'll suggest the state vet. I'm going to upload a video to my channel today addressing all that stuff, plus the person who said to give CBD oil to my chickens...yeah, let's just dose them with something you don't know if it will help or kill them because it seems to help human beings in some cases. Avians are not mammals...seems to come as a surprise that they are just different.

I just Luv all the people who jump on the " I found a cure" bandwagon.

Wait a minute. Wasn't everyone, and everything cured of all known ailments a short while back with Turmeric? Sheesh. People and their fads. While I'm sure there are medicinal properties in good CBD oil that would benefit certain types of ailments, I agree it's not a cure-all for everything from snoring to athletes foot.

It's pretty quiet around here. Maybe you all were out yesterday like I was planting and gardening. It finally actually got up to 70 degrees yesterday, first time this year. Although the black flies ate me alive, and today I have a rash down both my arms from all the bites.

Yuck, thankfully, no blackflies here. They are evil!

Awhile ago, little Spike sounded off with a vengeance. When I went to see why, he was pacing back and forth in his pen, looking toward the power line easement. He kept going and going at the top of his lungs. And Hector was in the barn pen on top of the rock wall, looking the same direction, then he sounded off. Tom went out there, armed, to see what was so disturbing and could not find anything, but I've never had Spike go nuts that way. He just paced and paced and cackled and cackled for awhile. Eventually, when they saw Tom go toward that area, they both calmed down and just watched.

A few minutes later when I went out, thinking the rain was about to start up again, Hector was at the back barn fence looking toward the same area intently, keeping watch. Good boy! When I called him, he came hoofing over the wall to me and went in when I told him, like the great rooster he's turned out to be. I still have no idea what upset them so badly, but it was something more than a deer running across the yard.

I'm itching along with you Mary. Been doing the same outdoor activities and found myself pulling out poison ivy with no gloves. I thought it was another vine but i was wrong! I also have had 2 ticks attached - always in an inaccessible spot! I usually go outside looking like a total dork with long socks pulled up over the bottoms of my jeans and my shirt tucked in with my pants pulled up to my armpits! (Well, that's a little bit of an exaggeration but you get the picture!) DH says I'm a tick-magnet.

Cyn, I had the same thing happen with my roosters yesterday. When I went to investigate, there was a big hawk sitting in a nearby tree. The last few years we have had two varieties of hawks nesting in our yard. I guess they are back. They give the chickens fits but they usually don't go after them. The chickens have pretty good cover in their runs. I never let them out anymore - too many foxes, coyotes and bobcats around.

Jill is on Day 16 with her 2 remaining eggs, full of chick.

My poor husband. He is going through the same crap he always has to go through when he has new "professionals" involved in trying to get relief for his back issues. The VA sent him to physical therapy twice a week, and this time, he acquiesced, knowing what would happen. He's gone twice. It seems the ultra-skeletal PT guy, the vegan who looks sickly, thinks his job is to make my husband lose weight, that his back issues are due to his weight gain, when in fact, his weight gain is the result of his severe back pain and inability to be active as he wants to be.
So after two sessions, he can barely walk and is in more pain. His back is worse. Exercise DOES NOTHING to fix missing discs, bone rubbing against bone or pinched nerves. The PT guy doesn't want him to allow the surgeon to treat him, thinking his magical exercise routines (elliptical, etc) will fix his back issues because he'll lose weight. ALL HE WANTS IS PAIN RELIEF w/o resorting to being in a stupor from pain drugs! Geez. No, PT is a JOKE for something that is not muscle related! WTH is wrong with these people?
The PT guy seems to think we eat badly. NO, we eat fresh food. No, we don't forgo dairy products, free range eggs or all meats, but we rarely eat red meat in the first place. We rarely ever eat out, hardly ever eat fast food, I don't bake goodies except maybe once a year. We grow a lot of our own vegetables and can them ourselves. But, he's pushing that Mediterranean Diet thing that made him a sickly-looking guy, no animal products. Loaf bread has not been in the house for a year, but when it was, it was real whole grain bread.
