Thanks. My friend lockedhearts is considering the BR chicks. She's had many of my BRs over the years, starting with progeny of Hawkeye and Lexie. I'd advertise them on some FB poultry group but I cannot STAND having to deal with people on there that say stuff like this, like they think they know something.
Quote:
What a crock of chicken poop. No, my chickens are NOT infected with Mareks. NOT EVERY CHICKEN IS INFECTED WITH MAREKS, for cripes sake! Even the stupid labs go right to that. Why do they WANT them to have it? I swear, if I hear someone jump to the Marek's conclusion again first thing when a chicken limps, I'm going to throw poop at my monitor. There are so many things that can make a chicken lose function in a leg other than Marek's. I've seen several of them here.
I can't belong to one of those FB groups. Doom and gloom, always. There's enough here on BYC sometimes to make me lose my cool w/o adding to the stress. That's why I rarely ever go to Diseases anymore. Can't take it. It's depressing. Not just the sick birds, but folks who go right to the worst case scenario all the time, or those who read one article and they think all chickens MUST either have Marek's or be going to get Marek's. Used to be Mycoplasmosis. No, all flocks are not infected with that, either. Mine is not.
Generally, most folks who hang around and read some on BYC are better informed, or at least, have people who do know a thing or two and can calm them down. On FB, it's nutso sometimes. Just saw a guy try to sell a "Buff Orphinton" rooster. The rooster was buff but was barred all over. And he can't see that obvious gene, I guess, so someone will buy it, thinking it's an Orpington and not the mix that it is. I mean, who sells a Lemon Cuckoo, a quite rare color variety and an expensive one, as a Buff anyway? More likely, it's a cross. I've had quite a few BR x Buff Orp crosses or folks got them from hatches from me years ago when I had my original hens.
Not sure how the "h" keeps getting in the breed name. Do they pronounce it with an "F" sound, like "ph" is supposed to be?
Oh, the BR cockerel got separated from his group and ran into Lizzie and little Jet. He was trying to get back, but kept being stopped by the garden fence. All the while, little Jet was flared up and kicking his big old bum, LOL. Jet says, "I ain't no stinking dwarf! I'm a rooster!".
Have you guys seen this commercial?? I love it and it makes me cringe all at the same time. She seems so, well, vulnerable!
