The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Thank you, Isaiah, and looking good at the show! My grandfather raised Black Angus with Jersey and Guernsey for milk cows.

Thanks!!!! I love Jerseys!! Our jersey is bred to an angus for an april calf cant wait for more babies!!

Who doesn't love a Jersey cow, right? Such pretty faces on those gals.

Okay, friends, call this one. Chick out of Atlas and Ida, just turned 5 weeks old yesterday, but I suddenly am wondering if it is a pullet instead. The coloring says pullet, the leg color leans toward pullet, but the head spot and super slow feathering were more like the males.

Cynthia, I say that is a pullet. Remember my Dot had a huge head spot now granted she is mixed with Delaware but still and the one previous had the head spot and slow feathered and it was a pullet as well.

Dot then and now

I'd be thrilled because she can be Deacon's girl. Dot is a pretty thing, but that Gypsy of yours looks so much like who she's named for, my lovebug gal.

I think that is a pullet Cyn. I wonder how good the barring in it will be since it has so much time to develop.

Cyn this is our Jersey named Lady. She looks like a Jersey/Holstein cross but she is all Jersey. But I know her calf is going to look like a Holstein.

I notice how some Jerseys are much darker in the face than others. Lady is very dark, isn't she?

Glad everyone is leaning toward pullet. And I'll have to go back and see about Lizzie at that age. I seem to recall that we went back and forth about her, too. That will be great news for Deacon.

After we put Atlas inside for the night, I let Deacon and Rita out for a little while. In this photo I was sitting near them and couldn't see what was making Deacon nervous, then finally, I saw it. Do you see it, too?

See how he keeps looking behind him? I was watching for a fox or coyote to run across the back 40 and finally realized what he was looking at.
