The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Peanutsmomma (Angela) will be dropping by to say "hello" tomorrow before she goes back to Alabama. Since she was drooling over my homemade cinnamon raisin yeast bread awhile back, I made one of those, as well as a plain loaf, for us to have tomorrow. May send some back with her if she wants.
I do have a dozen and a half Barred Plymouth Rock hatching eggs just sitting here, all fresh and fertilized by the big man himself, Atlas. Wonder if she'd like to start a spring hatch right on schedule.....

Angela @Peanutsmomma and I had a wonderful visit! She brought me the coolest gifts, a cast iron rooster soap dish and some natural Hogwash soap. I hope she finds her farm close enough to me for us to be coffee-on-the-porch neighbors. Thank you so much, Angela! You're the best!

@Peanutsmomma hope your trip home went okay and all was well when you returned!

Today is Day 8 with Wynette's eggs. I have not candled them yet, mainly because the eggs have a splotchy character, especially ones belonging to Ida, of which I believe there may be 2 out of the 8 in that group. I have to get lumber tomorrow so probably won't be able to do it then, either, but hard to say. I actually put the eggs under her the day before I am counting as Day 1 but it was in the afternoon. I hope I'll be able to tell what's what in there. Within a week, Atlas and his harem will be moved out of that coop and Wynette can hatch her chicks in peace. Praying she won't kill any this time and her false start was just that.

Atlas is having terrible trouble with his right leg, flexing it all the time. If he doesn't get over this, he won't be with me as long as his grandpa Isaac was. Maybe warmer weather will help him when it gets here.

I need to keep one male from the hatch, if there is a suitable one, as a back up for Atlas. I just hope it's as super sweet as he is. I'm so proud of my boys in this line for their easygoing temperaments.

You are so welcome for the gifts my dear. You have helped me so much with my chickens that I will forever be in your debt. I want to thank you again from the bottom of my heart for the generous hospitality that you and Tom (and Finn) extended to me. Last night, I built a fire and snuggled up with the beautiful wrap that you made for me and had a piece of your cinnamon bread for dessert. It was a perfectly cozy night. Thank you again for all of the lovely gifts, you are such a sweet friend and I hope too that will buy land near you so we can spend more time together in future. As a matter of fact, I did see a place a for sale on Hardscrabble road that I need to look up. Hmmmmm..........

I wish I wasn't at my personal limit (what is that? lol) on chickens right now because I would have loved to taken those hatching eggs home with me. Hopefully, Atlas will live a long and healthy life like Isaac and we can have our own Atlas babies one day. It was so great to see Atlas and his ladies in person, you have such a beautiful BR flock.

Many, many thanks for a wonderful way to spend a rainy mountain afternoon sweet friend.

Oooh, I'd be so happy if you found your place that close to me! How wonderful! It really is a convenient place for still being such a mountain community, within an hour from Cleveland, TN and Dalton, GA and Murphy, NC as well. Glad you like the wrap and the bread. Finn acted like he knew perfectly well you were a friend, didn't he?

I hope Atlas gets better!

I hope u get some amazing chicks from them!
Thank you, Isaiah. I did go out and candle two of the eggs under Miss Wynette. One was marked "Ida" and the other one was just "BR" since I didn't really know whose it was. Both are growing beautifully.

I realize that it's been quite some time since I had any eggs hatching around here because I always number the eggs and I had not done so-helps if you go back to candle one that is "iffy". I'll do that when I do a complete candling as I do each egg.
