The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Once a chickens comb is damaged does it repair or will it always have the scar or black area?

It won't always be black, but it can keep a scar or if there is a chunk out of it, that doesn't grow back, no. If they lose the tip of a point, it's gone for good.

In between chicken activities, been trying to finish the quilting and getting ready to bind this quilt.

I love that quilt!

Thank you! I am going to lay out our fall queen size quilt to pin baste today now that I have some batting large enough for it. I will probably do that and hand-bind this one simultaneously. It's supposed to rain today so should be a good day for it.

Finn isn't home this morning, @Peanutsmomma It's highly unusual. We've been calling for him, but maybe he just went further than normal or he's hunkered down with a big kill and is taking his time. I didn't hear anything last night, not a cat, fox or coyote. He'll probably be home by the time you see this.

Oh no!

Hope he is just playing hooky

He had us very worried. Posted the story on Finn's thread just now. DH went looking for him at almost 8 a.m. Seems he was laying low and hiding from something. He finally trotted home, looking over his shoulder after he saw the car driving down the road. Now, he's sacked out on the couch.

Well, that didn't last long. He slept a little while and he's out again. Guess whatever was stalking him kept him from hunting the way he wanted to-I noticed his belly was not full like usual after a night of mouse-and-whatever-else slaughter.

I pin-basted this quilt today. Oh, my aching back! This used to be our master bedroom. Hey, why waste a perfectly good room for sleep, right?

What bright colors!

My 14 year old cat still has her little hunting forays - although she no longer brings chipmunks (live of course) in to the house, thank goodness

And today's pics. Apollo is filling out a lot. Still sweet at 26 weeks old. Don't know if you've ever noticed but he broke his left toe at some point early on. His right and Zara's right toes both have a tiny knot in the joint, same as their mother, Ida's. But the left is from being broken and healing at a weird angle, probably when he was being beaten up by Tessa in Atlas's group.

@gojira you mentioned needing a darker male. For reference, how does Apollo stand on that scale, as far as what you have and what you were talking about?

Bad Maretta, sneaking into the closed off Brahmas' nests to lay when I let them out. Typical EE.

Note: Zara and Athena hang with Hector's group way more than they hang around Apollo. Apollo tries his luck with the older hens.
