The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

My mom is allergic to caffeine too, sure hope I never am.

When ever I have those impending doom feelings it seems to be related to unsettled weather. And when my life is unsettled I have tornado dreams, go figure.

Nice video, Atlas is a good actor.

I love, love, love this girl!

If you need to make room, I'll take her, Xander, and Tessa up here, and promise to bring them in by the wood stove all winter! Your whole flock is stunning!

Did you see that look he gave me? Silly boy knows I hate for him to chase his son.

Isn't she a hoot? Dru always does gives me that look. Love that gal a lot and I miss her mama, Dottie. Dottie was always my favorite. And of course, she raised Atlas and his sisters for me.

In my best Robin Williams as Adrian Kronauer voice, I say.... GOOOOD MORNING, ATLAS FANS!

Hope you're all well on this first day of Fall! I'm just having my 2nd cup of coffee and trying to jump-start myself. No news to report so far, haven't seen my feathered kids today yet, but DH let Atlas's group out and "de-pooped" for me, as we call it.

Ha, love Robin Williams! I actually used an Airplane reference the other day (...and stop calling me Shirley) which got a blank stare from the younger person I was talking to

I get it! Haha!

In the morning news: Hector chased Apollo all around one side of the barn, then he chased him literally around the entire building, one huge lap. Yes, Apollo is still completely frightened of Hector. Geez.

ETA: Just bought three small Carolina Sapphire Cypress trees and planted behind the barn on the afternoon sun side. When they grow larger, should shade that hot side in the summer and also provide cover year-round for the birds inside the pen since there are no evergreens in there.

Not much going on today other than the usual Atlas chasing Apollo. Snapped a pic each of Hector and Apollo as they were going back in for the night. Sure wish someone wanted their first rooster to put with their hens-Apollo would be perfect for that just like Hawkeye was for us all those years ago. Everyone's first rooster should be a good one so the bar is set high and they aren't spooked away from wanting a rooster in the flock.

Was getting video of the Belgian D'Anvers and slipped into the big pen for a few shots and videos (which are taking for-E-ver to upload)

Miss Mary, who jumped on the hammock first thing for a little "swing time".

And my pretty blue Rock girls, Neela and Alice. Neela means "dark blue" and there is actually a shade of ice blue called "Alice blue", believe it or not, so that's how they got their names. Neela has her a respectable set of old lady spurs.

And here's Caroline, who has been spending an unusual amount of time sleeping/sitting in front of poor arthritic Snow in the nest box during the day. Not sure if there is an issue with almost 10 yr old Caroline or almost 9 year old Snow, but Caroline is head hen and would stand guard over a weak hen. Most of the time, she'd be dissing Snow, but this is a behavior change of late. Guess we'll know if something is up shortly.

Those blue girls are so pretty! You can sure tell the old girls don't have a rooster with them, their feathers are perfect

They sort of do have a rooster, at least the blue girls do have a rooster, but it's only on range. Xander gets to go out with them, but he never catches those girls, only Maretta, who is now acting like he is her rooster and will squat for him on occasion. I keep checking to see if her beautiful blue eggs are fertile, which would give me a good laugh. When Alice molts, she looks like she has rooster damage. The back feathers are all broken off just the same way.

Until the other videos upload, here is a short one of the D'Anvers:
