Big boo to the winter forecast

Maryland has the ice cold and snow filled forecast. It looks like everything east of the Mississippi is going to have a rough winter.
Yup. Just hope we don't have ice storms and long power outages here.

We here in Wisconsin always have rough winters, so nothing out of the ordinary for us.
Yup, so right. I've lived in Utah, Colorado and Ohio. Ohio had the crappiest weather of them all, ice, plus sub-zero temps plus snow. At least out west, it was powdery snow and not anywhere near as hard to deal with as Ohio.

I was scrolling through the buy-sell-trade area for older chickens and saw that your ad was bumped for Apollo. Did someone contact you? Or is it because of Hector?

It was only because I felt Apollo might be happier with his own harem and he'd make a perfect first rooster for someone, being as mild-mannered as he is. Plus, him being here and Atlas not accepting him in the group anymore meant that the section I had for the Belgian D'Anvers is now taken up by Apollo and the two girls, so the bantams are back in their small coop, something I really didn't want to do. I prefer all the birds inside the one barn.

The only person who has contacted me did so back when I had Athena and Zara with him as a trio, but when she found out, per my disclosure of their lineage, that they are 1/8 Delaware 7/8 Stukel BR, she said she thought they were pure Stukel line and she didn't want mixed breed birds (which, of course, as breeders know, they are not considered mixed). Of course, I explained the facts of breeding to her nicely and why this was the case, but after that, decided I will be keeping Athena and Zara since they've turned out so well and frankly, I need the younger generation of layers of all breeds.

Since you're about to have a whole new generation of layers start laying what do you do with the numerous amounts of eggs?

I doubt we'll have too many. DH eats 4 every morning when we have them and I eat 2 to his 4. So, a half dozen just for breakfast eats up (no pun intended) a lot of eggs. I have one neighbor who likes to buy when I have them, but I haven't had any extras in many months. And you can freeze them in ice cube trays with a pinch of salt, too, in case they really overrun us.

I get overrun with eggs a lot. I scramble them up and feed them back to the chickens to offset the feed bill. I used to chase people around with cartons of eggs, but now this way is easier and benefits me and my birds.
