The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Hey, a daughter of Atlas and Dottie won for Andrew in the show this weekend! She got BV and BB for both shows! And one of the pullets I gave him from Jill's bunch took Junior American class!

:weee

ETA: still having modem issues. Have a new one coming that we bought ourselves.

Great news!!! Very exciting!

Remember also that a heart condition can cause fluid in the lungs. it can also cause a type of pneumonia. Hope he is better this evening.

You are correct, Gloria Jean. I hope it was weather related or he sucked in some dust or something, but if it's his heart, nothing I can really do. He is clear eyed and seems better this afternoon, quieter breathing, but will continue the Tylan a few more days.

Yay for Andrew, you and Jill

How's Atlas doing this morning? And congratulations on the show winners!

He sounds better. Got some chicken-and-rice with yogurt and whatever hubby put in it for him this a.m. He made it for me yesterday when I didn't feel well (*no yogurt in mine, LOL) Will give him a shot later this a.m.

My modem is up for about 5 minutes at a time and have to reset it so if I disappear, it may go down for the count. Another is being shipped tomorrow (one we bought so we didn't have to pay monthly rental to the stupid phone co)

We know we have good BRs, but it's nice to have it rubber-stamped!

How come you don't show your chickens? I know you've said before you like traits that aren't as important to other people but it sounds like yours are top quality.

I saw on the news this morning about the terrible weather that hit Georgia the past day or so. Were you guys effected at all?

Biosecurity reasons, for one thing. And I just don't have any desire to show them. I don't even go to shows. Many diseases have been picked up at shows.

Yes, bad storms overnight.

Something is wrong with Mary. She seems hurt/lethargic. She was laying, but I noticed when she came off the roost to go out two days ago, she was limping a bit. She isn't now, but she is moving in slow motion, tail down, comb not exactly as upright as usual. I checked her for injury. Nothing. I bet Hector hurt her. I'm so tired of these boys hurting the girls. I'm about ready to get rid of them all.

ETA: Mary in the hospital cage. She isn't protesting at all, which tells me something is very wrong. Why Mary? I have all these ancient hens who stick around for eternity but the new blood I was hoping for, well, you know where I'm going with this. Her abdomen is not firm or anything. Can't find anything wrong, she's just moving slow, tail down and dragging her feet. I don't think she's eggbound, per se, her eggs are super small still. She is not straining, just walks like it's so hard to stay upright and she's just plain weary. Hector is really rough and won't let go when they protest his advances. Dang it, internal injuries are just impossible to do anything about other than what I'm doing, supportive care.

Oh, oh, oh, forgot to tell you all! Atlas sounds PERFECT this morning! His crow is loud and strong and back to normal! I am making him stay inside today and rest, but if he's still doing this good tomorrow, he can go back outside. He will have another day of Tylan, but I think we caught it very early. That's my boy!

And a picture of his daddy, Rex, next to him. You see the family resemblance? Those sweet boys!

By the way, why is my news always a mixed bag??

Looks like she has a sore back from her posture. If so she'll be better in a few days. A single dose of antiinflammatory might be a good idea, as long as she is eating and drinking normally. Just like kids they are, always getting dinged up somehow.
