The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Oh, report on June! She's doing very well right now. In fact, in fine head hen fashion, she broke up two fights yesterday between Neela and Maretta. I mean, she was right there on the spot for the smackdown. Tough old gal, our June. Thought you, Mary, especially would like to hear that. @1muttsfan And did you see the new pictures on Hector's thread? How is your boy looking, do you think?

Yay for June, tough old girl.

That Hector is a handsome lad. I love is comb, it looks perfect even with one too many points.

I think so, too. If he's going to have one too many, let them be great ones!

Adding pictures of Atlas's two grandsons and Pooh-bear. You can see her toes are not really like most of this type dwarf, but both have that little crook in the joint on the outer toe. Funny, that is a trait Ida has herself, that crook on one outer toe. Apollo had that himself and so does Zara, but I think it's just something with Ida. Would that be bizarre if we eventually found out that a dwarf gene is also circulating in the Stukels? What are the odds that I've had a line of Delawares with it and then add a line of Rocks with it, then, horror of horrors, cross the two?? Just my luck, though, I tell ya!

I believe now that the younger male is not really small; it's just that, like certain individuals in other groups, the older one is a moose!

And Gypsy. She is such a treasure. She will be 10 years old in November if she makes it that long. @seminolewind Valerie's sister is still with me.

Oh, lookie who got caught on game camera up by the driveway?

Have not downloaded it yet, but the other camera caught a fox by the perimeter fence in the pasture, second time, but a better, closer picture this go-round. I bet he smells the feathers in the poopy shavings we've been throwing out in the pasture to fertilize it. They're feeding kits now so have to watch for them in the daytime.

Looks like the beginning of a beautiful winter coat for you.

Well, maybe a pelt to hang on the fence as a warning to others. Not wearing a fur coat! I'm just too hot-natured!

ETA: An interesting email from my son in S. Korea, who will soon be leaving for Dublin, Ireland to do a Masters program at the end of August. He sent me pictures of them selling wood stoves on the sky garden of a building for $5000 each, which is about twice what they cost here. I said it was odd since they have the worst air quality ever anyway, but here is his response.

Quote:
Standard Korean prices always 2-20x USA prices. I saw a Duxiana bed today that was $37,000 but online is $8,000. Also a full coffee/expresso/latte /everything maker for $6,000 that's $2,500 on Amazon with free shipping.
Always amazed by the up charge here. But then again, in a shop where an American company would put 1-2 people per area (housewares, bedding, etc) Korean companies employ 2-3 people to push sales in EVERY SINGLE AISLE of a store.

I'll be glad to escape the 'discount' stores where carrots are only $1.25 each and Chinese rice has a 500% import tax to make it comparable to Korean rice prices.

But then again, Dublin apartment prices will make up for any food and clothes price savings.

And I sent him the link for this cool little cabin not far from us, which is much larger than his apartment in Korea, all off-grid. He said he loved it and FRESH AIR, TOO!

Miss Pooh-bear seems less energetic today. What I am noticing is that her body is becoming larger, but her legs are staying the same length, so it must be a strain on her heart to have to waddle around and support her own weight. She is a precious little soul, but I think that coming up on her 9 week birthday is also coming to the end of her little life. Cora will turn 10 weeks old this weekend and may be alone very soon. I am hoping that Pooh makes it another week or so to give Cora time to put on more size, but I'm not sure she will.
