The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Good to hear she picked up her chicks. How Drew/Drea looking?

I would not put you on the A list. I would put you on the nice person list. I enjoy you pictures and videos, they are informative and you have nice looking birds.

Sinkhole are terrifying. I could not live in Florida, them and the heat, snakes, gators, tourists.....

I'll take that, thank you! Yes, this woman got her BR chicks and she loves the Brahmas she bought from me awhile back, says the cockerel follows her all over the place like a huge puppy. And she named the blue partridge pullet Caroline, too! I miss my Caroline a lot. If the other person backs out of the 8 Brahma chicks, she says to call her, she loves hers so much, though I'm not sure she'd take all eight, four boys and four girls.

Oh, I forgot, I do have new pics of Drea/ Drew for you, plus the other two left! Duh! Tried to get him/her next to the remaining for-sale cockerel, but it's not easy. The pics are marked. And MaryJo is a big girl! Even the shape of the wattles on the "it" child are more pullet-shaped, as is the head and comb, though it is most definitely larger and more pinkish than MaryJo's.

Thanks for those, now I'm back to thinking rooster. :pop Maybe a slow mature easy going one, those I like.

But you see my problem with sexing this little goof. It has a super small comb for a BR male this age, though the body is huge! The legs are thicker than MaryJo's, even though MJ is a big girl. But she is very obviously a girl. I kept Drea/Drew out of the sale pool so I could watch him/her develop further. That chick is very calm and easygoing. The other two were more "Hector-like". I think that is a new category, "Hector-like", LOL. And when there is no more question about Drea/Drew, none at all, then I can put him on the market. I know this is a Stukel kid, I know it deep in my bones, so a chance of the dwarf gene, but the barring is the best of all of them. And the easygoing nature is very much the Atlas trait. Shame that I can't keep an Atlas son, it really is. I wish I knew if Dru or Wynette was it's mother, but I'd tend toward Wynette.

May have to wait for saddle feathers unless the bugger decides to try out crowing before. I see why you are having troubles, it is walking the line.

I would say you are most likely correct about it being a cockerel, just from the coloring and the thick legs and the overall size of the chick-it's a big one! Did you see the width across the shoulders? The reason I need to be really sure is in case I sell it as a male for breeding. I would hate to have someone come back and say the breeding male I sold them is a girl, LOL. So, I just want to be 100% sure about it before I put up the ad.

Yeah, I'm still guessing a slow maturing male. Beautiful barring.

Thank you. I've just never had a male with a comb this small at this age in the past so it threw me, plus memories of lighter colored hens than the norm. But, as soon as I verify it's male, 100% verify, I'll have to let him go, which is too bad, really. If it was a Drea, it would be a great one for Hector's harem.

On the 23rd, Lizzie's three eggs from Jill/Hector are due to hatch so more chicksters to rehome, I guess.
