Thanks for the Rachel update and good luck with breaking Miss Dottie.

You are right, I totally forgot about the flying being an issue. Our bantam rooster is getting on the roof of their mini coop constantly which is about 4.5' off the ground. Maybe if our little guy wasn't so tiny he would be more earth bound, like his half sister. I am sure if I let him out to roam with the big girls he would eventually figure out how to clear the privacy fence. He would probably make a nice hawk snack too, so I am thinking they need to stay in their run for now.

He was the one who broke my heart, if you recall me mentioning an older rooster whose behavior changed abruptly due to a situation. Anyway, Shadow was a little princess. We called her the Diva Chicken, then later, my friend Ladyhawk saw a lavender colored pet carrier that said "Purple Princess" and from then on, Shadow was the Purple Princess. She had a special roost in every coop she lived in, called The Princess Roost. Now, Tiny sleeps on the last one she had in the Old Hens' Coop.

The Princess was just around 4 1/2 when she died. No idea why. She started hiding from the D'Anver roosters and one day when I talked to her, she didn't talk back(she was VERY vocal), no matter how much I tried to get a rise out of her, so I brought her inside and she died very soon after that. She is buried in the spot next to big old Suede.

Today was Day 8 for Rachel's eggs. I candled them tonight and all five are growing-WTG, Atlas, my man! Three are Dottie's, one is Rachel's own and one is Ro's. She is sticking like glue. Dottie, on the other hand, has decided that there is no percentage in sitting on nothing so she is coming out of it. Smart girl, that one.
