The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Today is hatch day. I checked earlier, and two had pipped. So, hopefully everything will go well. I only have them separated by the older hens and Rowena, mainly so I can see if there are any differences as they grow up. Seeing the progress of your five has me excited.

Oh, wow! I'm excited, too! I just also found out that Deacon really is fertile! Sammie Jo's egg under my D'Anver hen is developing. I'd never seen evidence of his fertility before now.

We'll speckledhen, you've done it. I am officially obsessed with these pretty barred rocks. I must confess, I have been lurking on some breeder threads. Honestly, until I started following Atlas, I had no clue what a real BR looked like. I was just never moved by the images of hatchery BR's or others I may have seen at feed stores or farms. Have I ever been left in the dark! Those lines are mesmerizing! I also like the overall shape of the rocks.

Now, off to figure out how to get ahold of some quality BR eggs. Why couldn't we just live closer! Then again, you would have gotten 12-15" of snow on Saturday, 50* weather on Sunday, and freezing temps today. Cabin Fever for a while up here :)

We're having a terribly wet winter here ourselves with lots of almost zero temps and below zero windchills that are not really the norm, even at my elevation. I can't wait for spring! I'm glad you like Atlas and the crew. He has faults, certainly, but I think his sons, having even more of the Stukel blood than even he does, will surpass him.

Just saw this on the Joss and Main site and thought of your sons.

I bet Chris thinks his big brother is a super hero!

So far, there are three chicks from the ten eggs from the older hens, and another one almost out, and one chick from Rowena. So, hopefully the power outage did not have any effect on the hatch.

Tell me about the weather. HERE!!! it comes again. Our road which was hard as a rock with riock , has now become soft as puddy in places. Thankfully my hens did well with the 2 degree temp we got before. I got 11 eggs tocay from 13 hens. I have one barred rock and she is so quiet and sweet. Now my Dominque, thats another story. Sigh. Hang in the Cindy, Spring WILL come.

I'm hanging, GJ, I'm hanging! I hope everyone else here does, too. Found Isaac under the coop at 4 pm. when all his hens were already on the roost. They rarely all go in without him. He wouldn't come to me, acted a little dazed. I wonder if he had a minor stroke and they all got spooked. He is 6 years old now, so you never know.
