The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

He likes the challenge of capturing the big girls.

We now have snow on the ground so no one is currently chasing anyone. The ones from this year are trying to get around the snow to go forage, but so far are unsuccessful. I see a different one trying every so often. Eventually they will accept they are grounded for now. I like your bare ground.

He is sexy, and it's all about attitude.
Yeah, he's quite the stud-muffin.

Cyn I am so sorry to hear about Rita!
Thanks, Isaiah. It's weird because Maretta now seems to want to be in with Xander and then, Rita is gone so the group in the #6 pen is down to just four hens. If one more from either of those passes, I may just put Xander in that pen with those girls and free up his front pen, or vice versa. Then, I could move Apollo and his girls into a larger pen and put the bantams back in that one I sectioned off for Apollo from the Old Hens group's large one. Anyway, the oldest two hens of each group are my EE, June, who is almost 9, and Dusty, the last Blue Orp from Suede's old group, who is the same age as June. June has had serious egg issues this year and Dusty has not laid since Suede died in 2012. But, someone I am not really expecting could pass on, too, just like Rita did. Both Xander's and June's pens are 5x8, with Xander having a roost shelf set-up while the other has a typical ladder type with 2x4 rungs.

Proof of Maretta's defection for you. I left both groups out and when I went down to put them back and close up the barn, this is what I found (not only did she defect, she dares to sit next to Dusty the Destroyer!):

I finally got my own Xander Cyn! I named him HeiHei and his GF Luna! I got them from a breeder and I believe they originate to Urch lines but i don't remember...

My camera juice was too low so when I hit the video, it began taking photos instead. I caught this one of Hector and all five BR pullets carousing while Apollo chased the Brahmas, trying to steal their women. I did manage a short clip of that uploading of Apollo chasing Bruno before the juice completely ran out on my camera. It seems that Apollo has an unnatural attraction for foreign women with hairy legs, LOL. See, Hector has all five-Thea, Jill, Mary, Athena and Zara.
Now heaven knows I was nowhere near tops of my math class, but I do believe there are only 4 hens in this picture
