The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Like Dh says, it's only costing us $800.00 per egg, but they're healthy eggs.

But, dogs and cats don't even give you eggs or fertilizer and they can cost more than that! Imagine the cost of owning 40 dogs instead of 40 chickens!

Today, the Old Hens would not come out of their pen when I gave them the chance. I kept saying, "C'mon, ladies, it's beautiful outside!". Then, finally, I stood in the pen door and said, "Isn't anybody coming outside with me?" and bless her heart, poor crippled Snow hauled herself up and propelled herself forward with great effort and threw herself out the door to me. So I took her out, placed her in a a deep dust hole and proceeded to help her get dirt into her feathers, all the while, with one of the Brahma cockerels standing close by, fascinated by her-he doesn't really get to see her because she and Amanda stay inside their pen when the other four old hens go out. Soon, I won't be able to leave their door open that way because I'll have hormonal cockerels that I don't want to molest them.

Oh please, he costs us more than that, just in stuff he "tinkers with", and breaks. He doesn't lay eggs either. He's handy with some things, but other things I just shake my head, and wonder what the heck he was thinking. Thank God for youtube. Often he can find a youtube video, and fix the damage he's done.

Oh that Xander. What a guy.
He sure was. We miss his little cantankerous self around here. The hens loved him, even Georgie, who sat by him while he was dying during the night.

Oh, apparently one of the "gurus" did exactly what I said in my video, blamed the person following the guru's advice when it did not work. Of course, it can't be their fault. Their information is never wrong. The blind following the blind (and haughty). Let's just keep doing the same thing that doesn't work over and over again until the poor chickens die. Is that not the definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results?

Well, this is pretty cool. I was just playing around, kicking the sides off a very rotten and holey tall stump when a big chunk fell off the side and uncovered this, yikes! I was about to reach for it when I thought, um, maybe not.

Is that a snake skin? Crazy!

I do believe so. Never found one in a stump before, though. There was a huge funnel spider who made a home on the other side of the stump and it caught my eye so I went to the other side and was just playing around and unexpectedly uncovered this thing. We've been removing stumps ever since we moved here and some have just been left to slowly rot on their own, this being one of them. We even have a stump killer song I sing when one more is gone...."another one bites the dust..." LOL.
