The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Oh, I forgot to tell you that someone who bought one of Atlas's sons (or was it Apollo's?) sent a msg on FB telling us that Rocky was now a daddy. And sent this photo of him. Apparently, they are very happy with him. Isn't he handsome?

I'm well into the second mandala throw. It has some of the same colors, but I changed up others.

Betsy was not doing well today. She drank water, but ate nothing at all other than two beakfuls of plain yogurt first thing this morning. She won't even eat mealworms. I'm almost resigned to losing her, but will fight to the end for her. I hope that if I open up her crop when she's gone that I can figure out what happened, but if it was not primarily the crop, it may remain a mystery.

Wow, you are working fast. The colors look more vibrant.

It does not sound good for Betsy. :(

I know. I never expected this for one of my young Brahma hens. The only thing that happened was their first big molt. They may feel not so great, but it shouldn't have done this, except, as you said and others have said, and even I have said, if something was not quite right internally, the big molt may have brought it to the surface and the crop is just a visible symptom. Still, it sucks, big-time, because I had only her and Bonnie as my blue partridge girls. Guess I have an excuse to hatch in the spring.

On the colors of the throw, where the first one had "carrot", this one has "papaya" a slightly more salmony orange color. And I changed a creamy white for the first one's pale yellow. Plus, this one has violet/purple, which I did not have in the first one. And some teal rather than just the green of the first one. Still has two shades of tan/taupe and the berry red. Just a couple of color shade variations will completely change the look.

Rocky is gorgeous! Fine looking boy. Love the colors in the new throw. It’s coming along fast.

We’re in the car on our way to my in laws in Idaho. We left 4 hours ago and have made 5 stops and still 2 hours away from our destination. Traveling with so many kids is not fun lol.

Rocky has nice barring.
I liked the first throw, and like this one even better.
I'm not interested in cooking a turkey for just the two of us, so out TGD tradition is lobster and steak. We don't splurge often, so it is quite a treat. I may bake an apply tart tomorrow am, then roasted veggies (potato, parsnip, carrot, onion, Brussell sprouts) and some fabulous baked beans from a local shop.
