The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Hey, you folks who use these ceramic emitters, what is the deal with all of them saying 220-240 Volts? That can't be right, that you have to have a 220v circuit to use one. This is one I'm looking at, about to order extra heat bulbs, but was going to try one of these.

Oh, found a 100w ceramic emitter for $6.99 with free shipping. Ordered that plus four more 100w black heat bulbs ($3.74 each) from Walmart.com. We are in business again! We want the wall condos done for Snow and Amanda by Dec 17, when we have to be gone all day long for our annual family dinner and I need them to have a heat source. I'm bushed, going to read my book and maybe crash early. Yawn.

I had to catch up. I was not feeling well, but am somewhat better now. I had to get up early this morning. The roofers came.

You can click on the image(s) to get a larger one, if you'd like. After they took off the old roof, they replaced the wood in the 2 areas that were damaged.

They cleaned up pretty good, before they left. They will be back again tomorrow to finish up.

They're WATTS not volts. If they wrote volts in their descriptions, it was the mistake of the folks that did the writing.
Actually, the bulbs are a max of 100 watts. It says 220v on the bulb itself, confusing, I know, considering who buys these and where most are probably sold. Others go out of the way in their description to say they are 110v sockets instead of 220v.
The one I got says this:
25W 50W 75W 100W 110V Pet Reptile Brooder Ceramic Heat Emitter Bulb Heater Light Lamp for Lizard Snake Tortoise ,100W color

The ones I was seeing said this:
THZY AC 220-230V 150W Ceramic Emitter Heater Pet Reptile Heat Lamp Bulb Beige

Just came back from checking the crop-sickies. I have some positive news. Betsy's crop is EMPTY! Now, to see if she can eat normal food (layer, not scratch) and her crop will function normally. That is the real test. She has interest in her special food we took this a.m., shredded plain chicken, scrambled eggs with yogurt and meal worms. She mostly wanted the chicken, which we canned this year in chunks. It's very, very soft and digestible. It's been probably three weeks we've been working her crop and I'm not sure how long it was compromised prior to that, could have been another week. Her molt deceived me into not checking her that closely, thinking she was lethargic because of that.
Bailey's is very pliable, but still a small ball. She is not as interested in food as Betsy, but she is probably a week behind her in condition.

Our temps are going to take another dive on Dec 6 so, though I just put Betsy in with her group to see if normal feed will process, I may still have to keep her in the cage at night until she gets some of her weight back. Both hens are bone thin.

That’s great news that Betsy and Bailey are doing better! How are the old girls liking their new rooms?

As far as Snow and Amanda, time will tell. At least when they back up, they can't back up far! It may be harder for them to get out of their poop if I can't find a way to hang food and water (must be low, almost to the floor) off the ground. May be useless since it has to be so low that they can't get under it anyway. If too high, they cannot reach it. But, it will be easier for us to manage them and no one else can mess with their feed. The cages will come in handy when they're gone, too.

Betsy has found her appetite again. She's been picking at her food all day. We'll see tomorrow if it's emptying normally again, I guess. She seemed chilled this a.m. with a very damp 50* in the barn, probably because she is so thin. Bailey picked at some of the food, but she seems to realize she can't put more on top of what's in there already. Both are drinking okay. I have nothing in their water now, just plain water.
