The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

@speckledhen

Since you heat your "oldsters", I thought you might want to take a look at this. I just got an email about it this morning:

That looks like a really great heater, but it's pretty expensive. Wonder how much power it would draw? If I had a large group in the barn together rather than several groups, it might be the one heater to use, but since multiple groups need heat, it wouldn't be affordable to use. It's cool, though, never saw one of those. I'll remember it for the future, thanks!

Happy Anniversary!

Thanks, Kara!

One of them is 600w and one is 1200w!!!!!! yes, they are for larger areas and would only make sense if heating an area rather than several small areas. The price includes the base and the "bulb", then there are also replacement bulbs of course.

I never saw anything like it either. I guess it's less watts than a hair dryer, but it seems like it would be very expensive to run.

I was also thinking it might not put off light.

Thanks, Sue. Yes, it may be a good one for a large open area. If I didn't have so many groups, I might think about it if it didn't pull too much power.

I got the ceramic heat emitter today and put it over Lizzie's roost. It's putting out a lot of heat (100W) and Lizzie shoved Tessa away from it so she could get under it all by herself, though it seems to throw heat a little further than a reptile bulb would. Her leg is getting better by the day. Maybe soon she can go in with Atlas again.

Happy Anniversary from me too.:frow

Thanks, Lisa! My SIL sent me a note this a.m. and said "42, right?" I said, yup, cute trick since I'm only 35. She said I can be 35 because that makes her 29 so we have a deal, she can be 29 and I can be 35.

I had a bit of an adventure today when I broke out in hives on both my legs from the knees up and on my face.

It thankfully went down pretty quickly after I changed my pants and slathered my legs in hydrocortisone cream.

I had just before loaded up a bale of hay to feed the goats and had used my knee to boost the bale into the wheelbarrow, so I'm assuming something in that bale set me off. It has never happened before, and I handle hay even day multiple times. So, :confused:

Oh, here we go again. Someone's Oxine dealer told him he could spray ACTIVATED Oxine around his chickens and in their faces, that Oxine alone was just a placebo. Good grief. I know for a fact it will cure fungi because it cured fungal infections in birds one weird summer, non-activated, of course. You have to use a respirator to breathe the citric acid-activated stuff, so why would you spray it around your birds??

Oh, Lisa, you're making me itch just reading that!
