The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Bailey is showing interest in life and food again. She still has a golfball in her crop, but we're seeing a decent amount of poop from her so stuff is getting through, thanks in large part to my husband, who acts like it's a personal challenge to save her after working with Betsy for a month.

My head Brahma hen, B.J., the Dark Brahma, has really blossomed in size. She's the largest/heaviest hen in the entire group and bossy as heck. Yesterday, DH was trying to get Bailey to drink from the waterer in their pen and B.J. kept wanting to come over and bully her and remind her who was in the boss of her. He pushed B.J. back twice and blocked her from getting to Bailey and finally, the last time he blocked B.J. with his forearm, that hefty mama bit him and flogged his arm! I've never seen that behavior from a Brahma, not my hatchery girls and certainly not from this bunch, though Bailey was getting a bit testy and tired of being manhandled for her crop therapy and was beginning to nip us when we reached for her. But, B.J., geez. This head hen stuff is going too far. She is going to have to learn that she is not in charge, Bash is not in charge, we are in charge!

I had a sfh that was a little attacker. It was the strangest thing - a female that acted quite like a male. In fact, every time I'd get near she'd "get tall" and start giving me a tongue lashing and would seek me out to bite anytime I came around. Strangest thing.

Of course, your husband started it. :D

Yes, he did! She was only trying to do her duty and he got in her way. Bad chicken dad! LOL. I really need to figure a way to weigh Miss B.J. She's really expanded post-molt.

Maretta is still clucking; in fact, she's more consistently clucking. She hasn't stayed on a nest, but I remember once years ago, she clucked for a solid month and never sat at all, drove me nuts.

Oh, I like this fighting smiley. I used it as a moderator to tell folks to quit

Here are the BRs today, or most of them-I skipped Lizzie, Athena and Zara, them being in another group (by the way, Liz is doing great now), plus the Belgian D'Anvers. We dremeled my porcelain rooster, Aubrey's, crazy curved spurs today, but I need to do another leg treatment on him. He has dragon feet-no matter what I do, they look awful, but I still lube them up periodically, when I can catch him without him swooning and turning purple.

@kitkat5505 thanks, I love those girls. Well, maybe not Tessa so much. She's a royal pain. But, MaryJo is very sweet. Atlas loves her. And the D'Anvers are a tiny chorus line. Usually, when Lucy was alive, she was the one facing backward, not Sissy, but Sissy is carrying on her cousin Wrong Way Lucy's habit now.

congrats on your blue-green egg!
