The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Okay, so get ready for my mini-rant. On ABC news, on the Good Morning America ticker tape at the bottom, they announced Kate gave birth to a son, 6th in line to the "THROWN". Seriously?? The thrown?? How about THRONE, you illiterate morons! How about going back to English class? I posted on ABC news FB page-scratch that, I sent them a message. They'll probably delete it or I'll get bullied. It's one thing to just use the wrong word in everyday writing on a forum or casual stuff, but these are the media, the supposedly educated folks advertising their ignorance of our language. That really frosts my onions, I swear. Let the abuse of my judgemental self begin.

Probably undetected :rantautocorrect, I'm amazed at some of the things I've posted myself. Although they certainly should have caught it.

Is he biting your fingers or trying to eat them? Those little Delawares think my fingers look like big juicy worms.

He was biting. Dellies are known to be "mouthy", so yours are typical, for sure.

As for auto-correct, this doesn't seem like an instance of that. And the thing is, I expect a higher standard of literacy from a news outlet, no matter their political leanings. I also expect professional billboards to have correct spelling and word usage. We all here have typed so fast, we either misspelled a word or used an incorrect word, but that's no big deal. It's casual conversation. I realize that auto-correct can make for some bizarre conversations, too. I can usually tell what was meant, but at times, I'm going, "What, say what??" I know I've typed a word and did a double-take, went back and pondered on it for a moment, thinking, "Is this the right word/spelling?". Generally, if I can't get my brain in gear, I look it up. It's the so-called professional who uses our language to make a buck, sometimes big bucks, that I take issue with on this subject. That's all. I can just say I was thrown when I saw "thrown" incorrectly used for "throne", haha!

I agree! Major news outlets should have plenty of writers and editors to catch such an obvious mistake. I also get annoyed with her always being called Princess Kate or Kate Middleton. She is married and as royalty uses her formal name, her proper name and title is Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. I don’t know why, but it really bugs me that media still calls her by her informal maiden name or the improper title of princess.

To funner topics more related to this page- here’s another chicken pic. My favorite hen, Martha, loves to hop onto my shoulder whenever she gets a chance. I don’t have much time to spend with the chickens lately, but the other day when I was cleaning in the coop she came in and hopped up, despite the fact that there’s not even room for me to stand in there lol.

Aw, she misses you! I need a Martha or a Marta, never had one of those.

@speckledhen
I would have noticed the same thing as you on the spelling. I literally laughed out loud when I read the spelling!

It's always something I notice...

Just my gift, I guess. I was the spelling champion of my elementary school the year they cancelled the spelling bee so I didn't get to compete in anything past the school level. My husband uses me as his dictionary, though he has more college than I do. I was always an avid reader and he never did read much and I think that's the difference.
