The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

I would venture a guess that it belonged to a poisonous snake. Yeah, I'd go into the garden with a hoe, or shovel just in case. Hey, I totally understand about having to stick within a budget. It's smart to do that too.

Does the skin still have the underside of the tail section? You can tell if it was a venomous snake that way. Single plates: venomous, double plates: nonvenomous. Both copperheads and rattle snakes can be identified by this trait. I'm not sure about water moccasins, though. Do you have them there? My husband grew up being told that there are no cottonmouth water moccasins east of the Blue Ridge, here in the mountains.

Okay, we're back. All our numbers were excellent, even better than before. Helps to grow your own food and not eat what I call "Southern Slop". If my SILs would get that, they'd not be fighting yo-yo weight issues. Mine always stays within a certain range unless I have a period of letting go and just relaxing for a week or two, eating foods we haven't eaten in many years. She also said I don't need a 6 month appt, can come back next August unless I get sick or something, which rarely ever happens.

The snake skin has no double scales, all singles. So, most likely poisonous.

From the top pattern, I'm thinking rattlesnake.

Yikes! I've only seen the long black rat snakes here in person, but I know the others are here. Copperheads, rattlers are definitely residents. I hope the cat and chickens stay away from them. I need my guineas back. The chickens see something and they may quietly cackle nervously then just leave it. Guineas will scream bloody murder and surround it, like a bunch of helmet-headed pointer hounds.

My son posted this a few hours ago:

The worst part of this whole ordeal is having to split up my babies.

Just imagine what would have happened if their son had lived. He'd be 14 years old and she would have used him as a weapon, probably tried to take him out of the country and this thing would have gotten a whole heap more complicated.
