The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

My son called. Apparently, he found that she has only about $1400 left of the 10K she started with and he saw a lot of $300/night charges at the Marriott so I'm not sure what is going on, maybe his mother doesn't even know about her or maybe he and she are living at the Marriott on her dime. In any case, soon, unless she starts a job, she'll be in a foreign country with no money, no family, no friends and no one who wants her back here, either. Not my problem and hopefully, she'll never again be my son's problem, either. He's happy that his debt is paid and his credit is way up and I think he's finally seeing the benefit of her being out of his life. He has to have more disposable cash, even without her meager income, because she's not there spending hers plus a chunk of his as well. And she's running out of money so fast because when none is coming in, it goes out like water over a waterfall. Plus, the settlement says she is responsible for all of her own debts and I know she just had to pay a big credit card bill. Oh, well, it won't be long before she's crying to her daddy to get her back home, unless she latches on to some other unsuspecting guy over there.

I still have several naked chickens in the barn, but most are fast re-feathering. MaryJo still is off her feed and a bag of bones and she's the one I'm most concerned about, however, at this point, I feel that if they won't do the minimum to survive, I am not going to take too many measures to keep them going. I've tried and tried to give her special food, but she barely touches anything I bring for her.

This molt stuff really beats on their health.

I have a bunch that have been or are in a serious molt. First they drop all their weight and don't eat well, so i'm trying to entice them to eat and wonder if they're sick. Then they are getting sprayed for bugs frequently because they're shaking their heads all the time. But it must be those new pins popping out of their heads- new feathers on my Polish. It's probably irritating.
My polish always seem to have a rougher time because of the crests and beards. We trim ours a couple of times as they are growing in feathers to get those feather sheaths off. I always feel so bad for them.

Are you moving all your chickens with you?
What color polish do you have?

View attachment 1575346 h2orrat, of course my 22 pet chickens are coming with me! I have 3 WCB, 2WCblue, one buff laced who's 10 yrs old, a "Crele" hen, 2 Houdans, 9 silkies, 4 regular hens. I love my Polish. They all got sprayed and wormed today so they are NOT very happy with me.

I hope this picture comes up
The green is mine and the piece to the right of that shed is mine as well.

Karen, glad you poked up your head! I'm sure you've been super busy with the upcoming move. Julie, I think she is moving her chickens. They may all need sweatshirts, BYC sweatshirts, LOL.

Yup they all need sweatshirts. We just had 4 months of 90-95 degrees, and it's cold up there, so here I had them all in covered outdoor pens and no coop, and laying eggs in a Rubbermaid tub turned on it's side.
Now they will all be going in to one coop and I got them a heater just in case. The heater is all enclosed. My horse is getting a blanket.

Very nice. It is so good to be by family. I am sure your daughter is ver appreciative. 22 chickens is very doable. I am working on getting my numbers down. Down to only 8 roosters in my rooster run. Up in my hen and pullet area I have about 50. The pellets are laying very small eggs , just started. These were chicks from the end of May from various venders. Some were my own hatches. I love my dr Seuss birds. Half polish and half something else. They have
Just a half a crust. Remind me of dr suess birds.
