The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

My aunt took care of her MIL, who had a talking Mynah bird, named Jigger. When the MIL died, my aunt, and her husband continued caring for Jigger. Jigger was a character, and part of their family. Several years later, when her husband died, his sister demanded the bird. Her sister in law claimed that it had belonged to her mother, and while her brother was alive, the bird was still in the family. With his passing, the bird belonged to her, since it was to be kept in their family, and she was the survivor, while my aunt was only married into the family. My aunt was heartbroken, but gave the bird to her sister in law.

She bought a young Sun Conure. Prior to her death, she moved in with her daughter, and son in law. They cared for the bird for years, and willed it to their oldest son, who loved the bird too.

Yes, you have to figure out what to do with it, and make arrangements, but I don't see why you should not keep it for as long as you are able.

You have some nice looking birds. I had an older rooster get hung upside too a few weeks back. Cat must of scared him and he got a spur hung up about 2 feet up. Thankfully he's fine now.

Aren't daughters a hoot! Took mine to a coffee shop yesterday and she says "I love old things, let's go antiquing!" Knocked me for a loop! Never thought I'd here those words. Then we get back to my house and we sit with the chicks. And for a person who has rolled her eyes at me for a long time, she pulls up chicken breeds on her phone and asks me about the breeds. Whodathunk?

I love old stuff. I buy used furniture on ebay, and all kinds of stuff pre-owned. In Florida I MOL had to put the antiquing away because it was not the décor. How sad! Now I live in a 100 year old house, and can antique to my heart's delight, drag out some depression glass and stuff from storage, display my quilts , and garden using northern perennials , and not those bright flowers that stay blooming all year. Seems I had a green thumb in NY, but moving to Florida, my thumb was anything but green. 15 years of plant problems. I could plant with nice mulch but unfortunately the surrounding ground sucked the moisture and life out of anything I planted including grass. The only thing I had luck with was privet

Oh, my, Suede did that once, got hung in the hardware cloth screen door of his coop while fussing with Isaac at it. Strange sight, that huge blue bird hanging upside down. He didn't hurt himself, which amazed me.

Karen, your place is adorable! All those fluffy chickens against green grass is so pretty.

I can see why you like it so much there, it is beautiful.

I am enjoying the spring bulbs right now, lots of bright daffodils, the result of years of bulb planing in the fall which has payed off well. Still spending most days in the 50's here, unseasonably cool - we should be 60's most days by now. Cold, windy and rainy today.

I woke up to 2 dead turkey hens. My old black hen is missing her head and her chest is eaten. 2 feet away is a younger Palm that looks flattened with her flanks chewed on. Both were on the far end of the run sitting on a nest. They were killed halfway back to the shed. They are about 2 feet apart. I'm suspecting an owl or else one would have escaped I think. Husband will look around when he gets home. :(
