The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

I'm so glad you mentioned Oxine. Dh just ordered another gallon now. I recently used up the last of the gallon I had. I wanted to go "supply" shopping yesterday, but couldn't get my daughter out of bed early enough, so we went today. I hit Sav-A-Lot, and got cases of various vegetables, fruits, corned beef, stew, boxes of side dishes, and tuna helper. We were checking out, when the masses began pouring in.

I headed to Wal-Mart after that. I finished getting the food I wanted for us, and the cats, paper goods, etc. They were totally out of cat litter. We have plenty of cat litter, so it's a good thing I didn't need any. There were no individual cans of cat food. They had the 20 packs left. I got a couple. There was some of the dry food I get for them, but not a lot of that left. The dog food was pretty bare too. At least people with pets are preparing for their care too. The disinfectant aisle was empty. Very little dish soap left, no Lysol, no disinfectant wipes. No spray bottles, or cans of disinfectants. It's a good thing I already have plenty, and didn't need any of that. I did get 1 gallon of bleach. I have a few more in the garage. Bleach water kills viruses too, so I expect it will work on this one. I'm not a big fan of lysol, but I do have a couple cans. I even have several canisters of the disinfectant wipes. When I clean the bathrooms, I usually use Comet Cleanser for the sinks, and showers, then a toilet bowl cleaner for the toilet. I make a bucket of bleach water, and everything else gets wiped down, or scrubbed with that.

Things on the paper aisles were going fast. I got enough paper goods to last us awhile. I already have enough plastic utensils. They were getting low on paper plates, paper towels, and very low on toilet paper. Under normal conditions, I got over a month's supply of TP, BUT my 4 year old granddaughter was having a problem. She'd pull on the TP, and it would keep rolling. She would yank again, trying to tear it, but it would roll off some more. For several days, she was going through a roll, or more a day. Finally, I told my daughter she had to teach that child how to deal with toilet paper. Heck, I couldn't afford her toilet paper habit. Now that the issue has been addressed, I should have enough to last over a month.

When I got to the pharmacy area, it was bleak. Almost all the Motrin (ibuporphen), Tylenol (acetaminophen) were gone. All the decongestants were gone. Almost all the Mucinex was gone, but I was able to get a package. There were 6 bottles of black elderberry syrup. I have 2, and got 4 more. I went to get the Mucinex, and turned around to get the other 2 last bottles of elderberry syrup, and watched a lady come grab them, before I could get to them. No Nyquil, Robitussen, nothing like that was left on the shelves.

I have a full prescription for an antibiotic on hand. Due to the chemo, I'm immunocompromised. My doctor recommended I keep a filled prescription on hand, since I can't wait over the weekend, or a couple days to get an appointment to see the doctor, to get a prescription. To the best of my knowledge, I am about as prepared for this, as anyone can be expected to be.

I do expect them to restock some of the things they were out of, and will continue doing my regular shopping as usual, so hopefully that will keep my current supplies available until needed.

Wow, I never thought I could be immunocompriized, Well , we won't starve here, LOL. But I tend to think that this CV is like any other virus, only we have watched it from the beginning. There are thousands of people that die from the flu every year so there shouldn't be so much hysteria, IMO. I think like any other virus, the more it gets passed on , it gets weaker. If they create a vaccine, it will most likely protect those Prior to exposure. And most likely take 2-3 weeks to get full protection. Just like the annual flu shot we get.

I personally don't go out that much and if I do I have plenty of hand stuff with me. And I try to not get into anyone's space-(don't breathe on me).

Cyn, when I lived in LI NY in the country for about 16 years on a deadend street. Acouple built a house across from me and were really nice. UNTIL someone's horse pooped on the street and he told my daughter to clean it up. (From some other horse, not mine). I said don't to her. Then we had always wheel barrowed the manure into the woods down a deer trail that you could not see from the dirt road. He told us we can't do that anymore. (we just found another spot). Then we were getting ready to move and we told him we were going down to sprinkle grass seeds on any manure pile. He says NO! It's not natural to that area!) We did anyway. We'd be gone before it grew.

Moral? People think they can build a house and within a few months started giving us rules. I felt like saying Why did you move out here from the City? Be careful . You have lived there for years and they will find things to whine about. It may help to look up the restrictions you may have and copy them out to have them on hand. Also can they shoot guns your way? Or let their dogs run loose?

Not a good week. One of my Houdana got a huge scab on the top of her foot, and some swelling on her leg. So I'm soaking it and will have to remove whats in there. Ick!

Then I find one of my polish dead under the roost. I remember admiring her the other day and was the one that's closest to perfect out of the 5. . I had also picked her up a few days ago. Well she just died. Acting normal the day before, , had appropriate food in her tummy , shiny, looking, the picture of health. I just don't understand it.

seminolewind, Before we bought this place, I checked to make sure it suited our requirements, and that the neighbors could kiss off, if something we did, didn't suit them. One of the closer neighbors began expressing dissatisfaction when we were building the chicken coop, because he wasn't sure if he would allow us to have roosters. The neighbor way down on the main road, mentioned something to that effect too, along with us not being able to use our driveway. The latter neighbor lives too far away to even hear my roosters crowing, so I let him know I'd keep roosters if I wanted to, and he could mind his own business, we'd do the same, and it would work out just fine.

The closer neighbor, which nobody around here likes anyway, mentioned he was going to call the country to see if my roosters were in violation of a noise ordinance. I told him to go right ahead, since I knew they were not in violation of anything, and I knew he could barely hear them, if at all. I commented his dog's barking was much noisier than my chickens. THAT's when I found out, he couldn't hear my roosters, but his dog could, and would bark when he heard them. It was his dog's barking that bothered him, not my roosters crowing. I stayed calm, and let him know his dog's barking was HIS problem, not mine.

Of course the whole time this was going on, Dh was in a panic. He was totally terrified that we might be in violation of something, regardless of assurances to the contrary, and/or that I would alienate all the neighbors against us. He was so used to living in an apartment, or subdivision, it took awhile for him realize that out here in the country, things are different. Neighbors are far away, and have no say-so about what we do here, as long as we're not breaking the law, just like we have no say-so about what our neighbors do on their property, as long as they're not breaking the law. As long as they're not dealing drugs, setting up meth labs, stealing from us, involved in animal abuse, people abuse, or human trafficking, I don't care what they do way over there, on their land.

Karen, I am not selling my land. I just re-bought the bottom lot and he can kiss my grits. No way I'd sell those two lots for what I paid for them 17 years ago. I want my privacy, plus I may build on the highest lot and keep the bottom for privacy and sell the main property if I end up alone.

We are so rural that almost everyone has chickens who wants them, cows, goats, all sorts of poultry, horses, etc, EXCEPT in all the new subdivisions with those blasted covenants. I'd love to hear someone complain about my roosters crowing. It would be comic relief.

Cute short video for you.

My son was invited to two interviews for Gwinnett County schools where he and his older brother graduated. He reminded me that he is not "starting over" but "refreshing his life". I like that phrase! He, after all, has been teaching English for about 10 years now so he just moved household back to his country of origin to continue his career. He's leaving to temporarily live with his brother in that county tomorrow.
