The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

We're going it this way per Hollis & Nancy's Homestead on YouTube, plus we put several in the ground to grow slips we can then cut off and plant in a row, per Deep South Homestead that Tom has been watching. I ate them growing up, but never really paid much attention to how they were grown at my grandfather's farm or in my dad's backyard.

I didn't know you could plant them as well. This is my first year attempting sweet potatoes after I saw how expensive the plants were. It's probably too late here to try the planting. We have a short growing season, generally June through September.

Sand Hill Preservation has an excellent sweet potato growing guide. Apparently the most important thing is the overall level of heat, described as heat units. Lisa and I are at a huge disadvantage, and growing them here would require a hot house or some kind of cover to extend the season. Glenn's passion is sweet potatoes, and he knows them inside and out.

1mutts, that's not entirely correct. Early on, Trump began pushing to restrict travel from China, into our country. The democrats, of course, criticized the move. He then asked for 2.8 billion dollars to help with research regarding the virus. The democrats delayed passing the bill for the funding. Instead they wanted to tack on an additional 5 billion dollars, to fund their own agendas, but still tell the American people they were passing the bill for the virus. Trump said the way they were politicizing the virus was a hoax. He did NOT say the virus was a hoax. He wanted a "clean bill", without the extra funding for such things as Planned Parenthood, and other things the democrats were trying to include in the bill.

The New York Times, and others intentionally misquoted what he said. That's already been proven, but by the time it got debunked, they had already moved on to other things to criticize him about.

I am in shock about what people hear about the "other" side. Trump seems to get the brunt of everyone's hatred . However, we have to remember that 50% + - are happy wiith him. They are just not the ones spewing hatred all over the media.
One thing sticks in my head. Salem Witch Trials. It starts wih ONE person accusing another of being a witch- and it quickly becomes a whole community or town of people yelling "burn the witch!". It's crowd or group mentality. And the people that are involved are certainly not going to make waves.

So it's hopeless for me? :) I guess I better stick to my Yukon gold.
