The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Sorry for your loss. :hugs
Thanks. I sure miss that big white girl and her pretty face. My friend always said Georgie's love hurt because she would walk up to you and if you didn't pay attention to her, she'd grab your leg, whether it was bare or not. She insisted that you adore her, always.

Well, my video program is being ornery so here are some pics for you. Hector was in the barn pen, thank GOD he wasn't free ranging or there would have been a bloodbath. Thought I was seeing double, Hector inside the gate and this boy outside. Hector was doing his fire alarm imitation but not attacking the gate, surprisingly. This boy is very young, maybe 18-22 weeks old. No idea where he came from, prob dumped over my fence. First time in 15 years of having chickens that I have a dumpee. What the heck do I do with him? There are no close-by flocks for him to have wandered down here from and even if he had, he either had to jump my fence or come straight down the driveway through the gate. More likely, dumped. No idea of health, though he looks healthy we all know that is not a true indicator, and no idea of temperament, though he seems quite happy in that little coop, probably like a 5 star hotel to him. It's chilly out there. I'm happy I had it available and the covered pen, which he kept flying to get out of when I first trapped him. Could not leave him out to be killed by something overnight.

Um, no. LOL. He's definitely hatchery, about 8 comb points with a wave in it. He did eat out of my hand at the end of the day when I went into the little coop to check on it after hearing thumping. He seems like a good boy, just stressed and alone. My editing software is chaput so this is a raw video, no added pics or anything. He loves the little coop inside, just coos to himself.

he is a cute little guy. He's good-looking enough that you might be able to Craigslist him.

although he might think it's Heaven living at your house

I do have a soft spot for those Barred Rock boys. He is handsome, for sure. At first glance, he reminded me a bit of Atlas's son, Apollo, but I literally have no girls for him. Maddie might like him better than she likes Hector, but she has no feathers on her neck and the last thing she needs is a young cockerel chasing her and trying to grab at feathers that aren't there. I'll probably call either the handyman guy who bought two of Isaac's sons from me years ago or a distant relative of Tom's who lives a few streets over from us. He has had some of my birds and may want this guy. I hate that I can't verify his health or temperament, but they'd know that before they take him.

Tom contacted his distant (probable) cousin Grady on Facebook and he said he'll take him tomorrow afternoon. Grady is a good guy so he'll take care of him, answered right away. So, the wanderer has a home. Good thing it was fast. I get attached way too easily. Grady's last name is a big surname in the family and was Tom's father's middle name, comes from a similar part of the south, met him through a chicken swap group and found we were probably related.
