The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

You won't believe this, but my adoptive mother wore a AAAA shoe! Don't recall if it was a 5 or 6, though. When I was little, she used to take me into downtown Atlanta to get her shoes at Thompson Boland Lee shoe store because they were the only place she could find them at the time.
That's just crazy! What are the odds??

Shopping with moms is rarely the most exciting thing ever, and looking for weird shoe sizes took it to a whole new level.

What's a dress?
You're asking the wrong woman. I haven't worn one in decades. Not practical on a homestead and not as safe for women these days, limits mobility. That's why, as charming and vintage as it looks when these homestead women types prairie dresses, it's just not a farm costume that I can get behind.

My grandmother always wore a dress. Never saw her in pants until she got into her 90's and had no choice. Husband asks why I don't wear long johns underneath my sweatpants when I go outside in winter. I tell him I come from a long line of polish women who wore a dress all winter. We have tough legs. It's genetics.

Every morning it's definitely sweatpants for me. My grandmothers also wore dresses, even on the farm. Still, I'm too cold for dresses. I don't wear long johns under my sweats, either. I hate layering, feels like someone tied me up.

If it's cold enough to need a second layer I go straight to Carhartt bibs. Although I feel a little bit like a sausage.
Those are very warm. As a kid we had snowmobile suits. Is that still a thing?

I need some of those!

I remember snow suits! I bet they're still a thing with kids, not sure about adults.

There are snowmobile bibs, and jackets that you wear over them, but the old one piece units aren't used much anymore. The weather has to be a lot colder than this for them to not keep you warm.
I had this out once this year but I got so hot I was sweating and had to switch it out for a lighter jacket

If winters like this continue, I'll have to buy something new. I have no decent coats; all mine are 40 years old. I have sweaters and jackets and canvas sherpa-lined vests, but no coats I feel are truly warm....except my husband's arctic parkas from his Air Force career. They are huge and very heavy, though. swallow me whole. This is our upcoming weather. Snow on Saturday. The screenshot cut it off, but today's high is 40, tomorrow 46 and some rain, then snow and 20-something Saturday and this mess below. If we get the three inches they predict for us, it will be more than we've had in years. I hate snow. Makes the worst mess afterward. I know this sounds like nothing to you folks over there on that side of the north country, but been there, done that, never going back. That said, you'll never see me in Florida. I'd roast.
