The Expecting Chick Momma Thread

Congrats! The mystery chicks are always fun... Let us know what it is when you know

I'm on day 21 of my incubation and I haven't heard or seen anything. They are lavender orpington hatching eggs and they are from my own breeding flock. They were growing nicely and were very healthy before lock down. Anyone else had this where they hatch late?

I think lavender orpingtons are beautiful chickens. I've never hatched any but did you remember to put a little calender in the incubator with the date circled to let them know?

I've never hatched chicks myself (nor in an incubator), but I hear they can go up to 23-25 days? Is the temperature low? If it's been low at any point in incubation, they'll hatch later. :) Yay for babies!

I'll have to try that next time ;) I'm cheating right now lol, I put a bunch of crickets in a cage near the incubator and they are starting to peep a bit

I have a Broody who is laying on ¡14! Eggs right now! 6 are going to hatch in a week and then I have the other 8 hatching up to 2 weeks away! I'm hoping that she will stay on those other 8 until they hatch too xD

I have 2 broodies- so I gave them 10 fertile eggs each. Once they hatch, should I move them to a dog crate so the littles can get in and out at night (with mama) or do I let mama teach them how to navigate the ramp into the coop. (I have 9 other hens in the coop if that matters).

Also- what about food...how do I introduce that to the babies.

For the 21 days I am going to hang a feeder in the coop for mama's and offer them water in it too- unless I should remove them from their eggs and make them go out and eat/drink/dust bathe?

How do they do it when they sneak/hide a nest? lol

Any advice- even not covered in my questions is welcomed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks
