The Expecting Chick Momma Thread

Update, 5 chicks hatched. The rest in the incubator were gone. I posted an eggtopsy and the general consensus is to much humidity and shipping/altitude complications. The chick I eggtopsied died around day 18, apparently drowned and upside down in the egg to boot.

And the last chick to hatch has a small amount of yoke still out too. Much less than the first but still. I left them in the incubator for an extra day so the humidity could help the yokes absorb but last night I neosporined the exposed parts and put them in the brooder. Hoping they get better soon. :/

Shipping out Wednesday Feb. 13th. Can't wait. Finally getting Blue Andalusians. I've been wanting them for a long time. In fact, I've wanted chickens for years now. Finally got eleven babies two weeks ago from the local feed store and now it's all over but the clucking. My new assortment will have the following pullets:

2 Blue Andalusians
2 Salmon Faverolles
2 White Plymouth Rocks
2 Dominiques
2 Red Shoulder Yokohama

I got my 7 year old daughter her own Bantams since she has done such a great job helping out with the current chicks.

6 assorted Belgian D'Uccle and
3 Barred Cochin. (She said they were cool because they look like zebras.)

Here's hoping at least 3 hens out of the SR bantams.

Getting males isnt' too tragic. I live in a very rural area and Hubs works with plenty of people who will take roos off our hands. I might even keep one who isn't too loud or obnoxious. These girls will need some protection, I'm sure. I'd prefer to keep all hens tho in deference to my neighbor lady who works nights and sleeps in the day.
