That probably wasn't the best Title.
I was curious if there was anyone else who enjoys breeding projects for the rarer or different coloured pure breds.
I'll have some more projects lined up, one of which i don't believe anyone has had yet which will be Chocolate Lavender (Both marking need to be Homozygous) it'll be a 2-3 year project i'll start next year.
I'd love to see and hear about other breeding projects :)

These are a couple of my finished ones

Pocelain (Millefleur + Lavender) Pekin aka Cochin Bantam

Mauve (Chocolate + Blue) Cochin Large Fowl

A lot of people don't like it when people start up a new color variety. First, because the new color usually comes at a cost to the type, which is what makes a breed. The second reason is, when a new variety is excepted in the standard, it competes with what is already there, causing inexperienced breeders to be seduced by the fun new color, further exacerbating the problem with the breeds type.

I think if you're having fun, though, that there certainly is nothing wrong with doing this???

I'm seriously thinking of cross breeding a Dorking into my Crevecoeurs. The Dorking has the size, similar body type, also lays white eggs and has red earlobes. The Crevecoeur has lost much of it's body mass, and looks more like a polish now-a-days. After mixing the two, I will need to eliminate the Dorking's 5th toe and get the hybrid comb back into a horned comb. Since the Crevecoeur color is black E/E. ... Well, it could be much harder to know if I've knocked out any unwanted recessive color genes causing my future birds to possibly throw other colored chicks every once in a while.

This is also frowned upon. But I feel like it needs to be done. It will take 8-9years to get it done, most likely

Anyway, I like the idea of this thread if it could be a place where we can do our experiments and get support without being scolded for dirtying up the "pure" genetics. I don't mind smudging my name a bit, as I don't plan on selling my birds to anyone until I've proven my birds in the show ring 10 years from now, LOL. But I do believe in breeding to the SOP, I just don't see another way to get there!
