You can clearly see that Stripes is smaller.

The only way to get them on your hands: put your hand under momma chick and wait until you feel their little feet on your hand. Pull your hand out and... voila!

Stripes didn't mind and kept dozing in on my hand.

Next week more!

Oh my you are back with more pics!

You could post everyday and I would look! It makes me wanna go hug my chickens (which of course I do). We have a nice cannon as well but the SO takes way better shots then me so I should get him out there taking photos of our chickens. I have seen lots and lots of photography and yours is excellent. I posted on your other pics too! I want that MOMMA! I think I will have to get a chicken like that!
Thanks again for sharing, there sure isn't anything quite as cute as a momma chicken and her babies....

Ditto!!! I just love your birds!! I hope my baby bantam buff cochins look like yours (the mother). Keep posting pictures! I can not wait to see what Polka Dot looks like when he/she is older

What is the father of the babys???

Cochins are the best! They are all beautiful- I like how Stripes is the little runt of the litter. So cute! How did you sex them?

Odette has fans!

Actually she isn't their real mommy, she's the one who hatched them. They do have the same genes since the chicks' daddy is Odette's brother. Which makes her an aunty!

This is their father:

And these are the biological mommy's!
This one's currently brooding as well, we're expecting 3 more chicks within two days.

Intuition

No seriously, I did the feather-test when they were 2 days old. Besides that, roosters are (in these colour combinations) mostly paler than hens. The feathers on the back also often start to grow faster on hen-backs. My own rooster was a lot slower in his feather-development than Odette as well and smaller!

Of course there's no certainty in it. Maybe I've got 4 roosters, or 4 hens... who knows!

It's just that my intuition tells me I've got 2 hens and 2 roosters.

Beautiful birds!! I am guessing that Polka Dots and Racing Stripes' mother is the Red hen, Mellow Yellow's mother is the white hen, and Peppy Normal's mother could be either or.....
