The Fathers Day Hatch-A-Long!!! The Last Day To Set eggs Is June 3rd!!!!

Our grey has a very extensive vocabulary .. it got to where we canceled HBO because he was learning... inappropriate things
Whenever I pick up a chick and it fusses he will yell at me "leave it alone!!" then coo to the baby bird.."awww baby.. what's the matter.. huh.. you ok?"

My husband keeps saying he's going to set up a camera.. never does

it took him all of 10 seconds to learn the new cat's name.. now he keeps calling the cat and telling him to come here.. problem is the cat still hasn't learned his name.. *sighs*

here's our brat

Beautiful!!!

Who said birds were stupid!

No wonder dinosaurs ruled the Earth for so many years. A new sequel to Jurassic park could be a talking dino of the more bird variety, like Archyopterix . Wouldn't that freak people out!

I guess it's time to set more eggs today. I just want to make sure I have eggs hatching during camp time. I did candle some bantam eggs last night and out of the 12 only 10 showed veins. I am so excited!!

I am so excited! I walked into my room where I have the incubators and heard something.. it is my very first turkey egg hatching!!

So I set my eggs at about 6pm on Saturday the 26th. I was not going to candle them until later tonight, but when I walked by the incubator last night the flashlight was just sitting there, begging me to pick it up. I have 8 shipped eggs in there. I just couldn't resist. So I thought well I will just randomly pick one from each row. Well the first one I picked looked kinda odd, no clear shape was visible. So I did the second one and I could for sure see the a clearly defined yolk in there. So I thought well I would try one more, and then one more and...well you know, before it was done I had done all 8 of them. So it appears that first one, egg number 7 is clearly different than the rest. Now I am pretty new to candling and hatching, but I am really hoping that it is a quitter and the other 7 are all going along smoothly and not the other way around. :) I think I will wait a few more days now just to lessen the handling. I am so afraid of dropping one.

That's awesome, 1hotmoma!

When I made my cooler incubator, I only knew that the LG instructions were no stacking. Well I saw how my first broody stacked her eggs!!! I now stack in my homemade, turn by hand, and move to LG for hatching. I can squeeze 54 eggs in!! Maybe a couple more, 54 was pretty tight though.
I love it!

Observing natural processes and adapting them to improve what we know - very wise!
