50% hatch rate on my shipped eggs =\\ (6 of 20 discarded at lockdown) (100% on my one home egg and 75% on the 4 Seramas carried home from Stockton)
I just gave up & opened the last 5 eggs; all fully developed & huge, no gush of water, 2 were a little wet, probably breaking down, those 2 also had a little yolk left. I had the humidity low after being told marans drown easily at pip, 55%.
The 10 from this shipment that hatched are fine, it just kills me that the 5 non hatchers look completely normal.

Can you tell (outside of a pathology lab) if they did drown? I can't see any sign of attempted pip.

That sounds very similar to what's been happening with my hatches. I hadn't heard that about Marans, though, but all of mine but one were as you described. I've made some adjustments to my incubator, so waiting to see if I have a better outcome.
Ironically, I wasn't having this problem when I was using a table-top incubator--it was after I decided to upgrade to a cabinet model!

HEY Y'ALL I HAVE A BABY CHICK!

I promise to be back with pictures if y'all help me out with something. This is the FIRST time I have attempted to incubate eggs and so far actually succeeded. The baby chicks feathers still look a bit wet and he's kinda just LAYING AROUND. Is this normal? When do they spring to action, so to speak. I'm freaking out that somehow he/she might be weak and need intervention, but I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT TO LOOK FOR. Help me out here and I'll get you pictures of my yellow fluffy thing.

Is he up yet?? Mine lie around just enough to make me worry, then get up and stumble/roll around, make me worry about their feet (well one did, before they dried out her feet were curled), then fluff up and race around. But you can't intervene or the drop in humidity can potentially kill the rest of the chicks.
Congrats & good luck!

ETA: Thanks Squirl

I went on lock down last night. No noises yet, but 21 days isn't up until Friday. this is my first hatch and I'm very excited. I just hope they do ok

Day 22 - I had another chick hatch this morning. The one that hatched yesterday morning is doing great. The one that had pipped yesterday morning has done nothing more. Last night before I went to bed the egg was rolling and has rolled to where I can no longer see the pip. It's been about 24 hrs since the pip.....Do I need to help him? Again, this is my first hatch and I don't know what to do!

HELP!!

Amy

I am so happy to hear about everyone's successes and so sad for the loss....
I am still hoping to have a good hatch!

Today is lock down day. I locked down this morning and the humidity is staying around 67%. I don't know what else to do to get it higher. I have sponges in all 4 corners. There is a tiny bit of condensation on the corner of one of the windows so I am hoping it is ok in there. I placed the eggs this morning, all neat and lined up. The green eggs have rolled together and one on the white ones has spun. I am getting very egg-cited!

I also purchased a few chicks today (figured it would make it easier if the hatch didn't go so well). They are 2 buff ops and 2 red standards. I will post pics soon. Hopefully next week I will buy a few SLW. The eggs I am hatching are mutts.
