The Feed and Yolk Experiment: Chicken feed and dark orange yolk color

Our chickens on our Brazos river bottom land got all the dewberries they could find. Usually lots to be found there. That could indeed be the key. Lots of antioxidants and that color probably is beta carotene? Even our farm cats could be seen wearing berry mustaches on occasion. :lau

I was just wondering do ducks and chickens lay their 1st eggs at the same age roughly? I have 2 ducks that I got at the same time as my chicks, only one chicken is laying now. It's been 4 months and 10 days from chicks

No, they lay later. I don't have any ducks, but I think I read 8/9 months. GC
Update, in duck section, I saw 4/10 months, depending on breed.

I just went to the duck section and someone asked the same question. 4/10 months, depending on breed. GC

Ducks reach maturity around 6 months, but some breeds will not lay til following spring after hatch. Some breeds are seasonal layers that won't start laying until days get longer. longer. Other breeds will lay very well all year long starting about 5 or 6 months old.

Thanks tlmcq and thanks gc raptor. Can't wait for an egg from a ducky. I'll use them in cakes and the homemade custard (ice cream) that I make. But I'll fry up the first one for taste comparison . Can't wait. I'll drive everyone crazy until they lay.
