The first time i saw spayed hens !

I see the need for stopping chickens ability to reproduce, nowadays, because there are SOOOO many being dumped or fed(inhumanely) to predatory pets.Too many people on cl handing over free cockerels/roos to "good" home only to have person receiving fowl feed them to their other pets(which is fine as long as long as previous owner knows what they're going for).Thats why I never hand a live animal over to someone. We just process ourselves then I don't have to worry.

The added benefit to that is that the capon and the poulard have better meat because of it. Not unlike castrating male mammals: cows, pigs, goats, sheep. You grow the longer, bigger, and have more tender meat. I am not interested in selling mine, so I am caponizing, and just began poulardizing since I don't need any more layers.

They have the rooster look by the time they are 6 months of age. Look at those short legs!
