The fiscal cliff

I don't mean to argue but
According to the Article 37 of the Greek Constitution, the President shall appoint the leader of the political party with the absolute majority of seats in the Parliament as Prime Minister. If no party has the absolute majority, the President shall give the leader of the party with a relative majority an exploratory mandate in order to ascertain the possibility of forming a Government enjoying the confidence of the Parliament.

And both the president and the prime minister are elected by the parliament not the people. The president has almost no power.

This explains it well.

But a brief run down is an end to the Bush tax cuts for all incomes and spending cuts that will cut the federal deficit for 2013 in half. It will also cut the spending deficit by more then $7 trillion over the next 10 years. And may cause a mild short term recession.

I’m sorry that I am getting in on this late, but I just got to clarify this info. If we go over the “cliff”, then our taxes will go up, thus pumping more money into the government, and at the same time, cause the government to spend LESS? Somehow, I can’t see how this can be - at least for any length of time!

All of these JOBS that are suppose to be lost .... what kind of jobs are they - Government jobs?

Any business that is hit hard with the tax hikes that they need to make cutbacks. I suspect the private sector will suffer the most but we'll see. I still don't believe in the hype. I still believe in the retroactive breaks.
